Tonight we have two reports that WSB’ers wanted to share with you – first one involves a ransacked car; second one, a mom who says someone was behaving suspiciously as she and her children passed – read on for both:
First, from Larry:
8100 block of 31st in Westwood area:
I discovered my 1997 Nissan Pickup truck ransacked this morning at around noon (Monday June 20th). I was out of town Saturday and Sunday, but my wife was home all weekend. My truck is parked in back of our house next to the alley. The neighbors across the alley saw three men attempt to break in to his bedroom window last week. He chased them off when he yelled from his back door. The last time I was in my truck was on Saturday morning to retrieve some items for my trip. I left the door unlocked thinking I would return for more items, but in my rush to catch a plane, I must have forgotten to lock the door.
Monday, June 20th, I discovered the door was closed, but unlocked. There was no sign of forced entry, so I’m guessing I left the door unlocked (which I’ve only done a few times in the 10 years I’ve lived here). Missing from the car was a box that had miscellaneous items of no real value, CD’s, flashlight, pens, etc. My ashtray with about $10 worth of quarters was also missing. The glove box was left open and half empty with many of its contents thrown about on the seat. Nothing of importance taken from there either.
From Fairmount Springs resident Katy:
Just wanted to let folks know:
While I was walking with my two daughters and a friend of theirs (ages 10-12) with our dog today, we saw three men “hanging out” in one of the old Huling lots just off the sidewalk on 40th, near Alaska. One of the men called out to one of my daughters, then when he saw me, approached me and tried to engage me in conversation with comments like “How ya doin?” He even sang “You Must Have Been a Beautiful Baby.” Which would be kind of funny, if it weren’t so creepy. I ignored him though I was very alarmed that these men would give any attention to a kid on a scooter. Disturbing to say the least. I have walked in that area many, many times over the years, but in the last month or so have noticed quite a few more incidents of men just “hanging out” – sometimes in the Bank of America lot (especially on weekends), sometimes in the empty Huling lots.
I called the non-emergency SW Precinct line when I got home and the officer there said they would definitely keep up their patrols in the area. He also encouraged me to call immediately if it happens again so they can send a patrol car to check around and talk to any one who may be involved in suspicious behavior.
