Don’t want yellow pages? Seattle’s new opt-out kicks in

Just in case you haven’t already seen this a hundred other places – and, since in the case of one company, it’s time-sensitive if you want to opt-out for this year – Seattle’s new system to “opt-out” of unwanted yellow-pages deliveries is now up and running. To sign up and opt-out, go here.

    WAHOO! This is so great.

Excellent! Now we just need to push for an opt-in policy so the burden isn’t on citizens. This is a great start, though.

Thank you, WSB! I had no idea this service was available.

Last I heard Yellow Pages was going to sue the city over this issue. Not sure on the details, but some lawyer was talking nonsense about the Yellow Pages constitutional right to distribute the material. Seattle wants them to stop because the recycling costs of unused books is actually quite substantial, and essentially is a indirect subsidy for their industry. Hope the opt-out works!

JB, if it doesn’t work, please report it using the same tool. Companies that don’t honor your opt-out can be fined. I think that’s the only reason this might work.

This might be the best consumer site EVER!!!!

Facebook it, blog it, send it out to everyone you know!

The service is great for recent newlyweds or new homeowners.

Thought I heard on the news that this “opt out” project is now “on hold”. Could be because of the lawsuit refered to in the above post. Either way I opted out and I hope it works!! Every city in the nation should have this choice.

There’s an ongoing lawsuit and a request for a temporary restraining order was filed … but it’s not “on hold” as of this point … TR

I wonder how many trees would be saved if all yellow pages got stopped.

Sorry, comment time is over.
