Update: Red Cross helping family after kitchen/attic fire

On our way to the second house-fire call in less than three hours, this time in the 6500 block of 21st SW (map).

9:43 PM UPDATE: Firefighters at the scene tell us this started as a kitchen fire and spread into the attic (which required crews to “ventilate” the roof). But it too was put out fairly quickly. No injuries reported. Crews are mopping up.

11:22 PM UPDATE: The Red Cross was called out to assist the family. Also note, the address was later corrected to 23rd SW.

It almost is like they can’t find it. I’m watching from my front yard…

That explains the sirens that just went by.

Did they have trouble finding the fire?? They seemed to be looking for where the smoke was coming from with no success for about 7-10 minutes

I have been looking on all of the news sites because I heard the crazy sirens. Thanks for letting me know!

Thanks for your quick response as always.

I knew WSB would have the info, love you guys. We heard the sirens but couldn’t see anything and right about the same time we got a huge wiff of acrid smoke smell that drifted in the house. Based on where it is compared to our house I’m sure that was it.

I saw multiple cop cars going up Delridge, at least five. Why are we sending so many cops to a kitchen fire? I am glad everyone is okay, please don’t get me wrong, it sounds like the firefighters did their job.

There is a cop car blocking 21st at the bump sign in that block on 21st.

    .
At 2114 hours, the 911 caller reported to the dispatcher that the fire was at 6527 21 Av SW, and a ‘Fire In Building’ response was sent to that address.
    .
However, at 2118 hours, as Engine 11 arrived at the reported address, the dispatchers learned that the fire was actually at 6527 23rd Av Sw. All units were redirected to that updated address. Check a map to see the difference- it is quite a few blocks of travel between the two addresses.
    .
That is why it may have seemed that the initial responding units couldn’t find the house.

Hey lt, thanks for the address correction – we heard that on the scanner somewhere but I asked my on-scene crew and he said no, it was 21st as far as he knew … The initial callout really was 21st. We were both sitting on stairs at Alki squinting at SBX in the dusk when our text alert went off and I had to map the address before he went running off to the scene. – TR
