West Seattle restaurants: Meander’s to expand – and to sell books!

Story and photos by Keri DeTore
Reporting for West Seattle Blog

Meander’s owner and chef Miranda Krone is expanding her tiny, but increasingly popular, breakfast/lunch café into the vacant former law office next door.

“Waits (for a seat) are getting longer even on Tuesdays and Wednesdays!” said Miranda, who started considering expansion plans shortly after opening Meander’s three months ago (WSB coverage here) in the former Jade West Café space at 6032 California SW.

Her plan is to cut an eight-foot doorway in the wall separating the two spaces so that it will “feel like a dining room off of the kitchen.” The additional space will add 26 chairs to the current nine stools and one table in the café.

Books are another passion of Miranda’s and with the expansion, she’s planning to install bookshelves along the walls and sell used books.

While the permitting process will take a while, she says “the drawings have been submitted!” and she’s hoping to get started sometime this summer.

P.S. Meander’s is now on Facebook“like” the page here.

Keri, little did I know I was sitting next to a reporter for the blog! We loved our breakfasts and will be back again soon.

Now here is some good news you can use!

Now she just needs a sign…maybe she could just redo the “acupuncture” sign and put “EATS” on it for the time being.

The old Chinese food sign does not help.

    I didn’t realize either.

I love this place. I brought some stuff to read with me but the people next to me drew me into their conversation. I almost feel ashamed to check my phone when I’m at the counter.

Great food also. Very excited about this!

The seats at the counter will always be the best ones. Miranda is wonderful and her food is delicious!

Its like a big family breakfast. You walk in and she greats you and if you are lucky Zen nguy is there to say Hi also (little joke he was there the other day when I went in). You pull up to the counter and start talking to your neighbor.

YAYAYAY!!!! Two of my favorite things (breakfast and books) together at last! We LOVE Meanders! But with two little boys we often feel bad taking up so much space in an already small place. We’ll go much more frequently after the expansion takes place!

So happy for Ms. Miranda, we think she’s the bees knees!! And goodness knows, so is her food. :-)

Two words, fantastic and phenomenal….Miranda and her culinary prowess. First entering I thought, hmmm, good cozy feeling but then the great coffee hit my lips and then, best biscuits, ever. The corned beef hash’s namesake made a guest appearance and it was nice putting a face to the name of something so well constructed and delicious. We met new friends with fist-bumps plus a round of laughter after a hip hand-sign clinic. Thank you Miranda and your WS zen.

Maybe a sandwich board for the sidewalk in the meantime?

Sorry, comment time is over.
