West Seattle Crime Watch: Burglary arrest this morning

Just in from the Southwest Precinct – Capt. Steve Paulsen reports a burglary arrest around 7 am this morning in “the north West Seattle area.” Officers arrested the suspect, he says, “after they observed a suspicious vehicle while patrolling for criminal activity. Evidence and information collected from the vehicle may resolve a number of incidents/crimes that has affected this area in the recent past.” He adds, “This is a great example of our men and women sharing information with each other in regard to crime trends and targeting neighborhood hot spots in order to reduce crime.” We’re pursuing more information on the arrest; we had just been working on a story compiling more specifics about the recent “burglary spike” that Capt. Paulsen had announced at Tuesday night’s West Seattle Crime Prevention Council meeting.

Good deal!! Now let’s hope the judge doesn’t release him tonight.

Amen, Marty. We need to change the state’s standards for bail with regard to repeat offenders; also with regard to sentencing standards. Both need to be much tougher than they are. Our legislators don’t seem to have the stomach for it unless we push them to act. We also need to keep track of wishy-washy judges who consistently favor defendants over the community AND VOTE THEM OUT.
    .
    Good job, SPD and neighbors.

Just so you all know, we are working to get whatever additional info is available, as soon as it’s available … the report isn’t even available to the media unit yet, since it’s still in progress. We’re watching that, we’re watching the maps that show incidents with several hours lag, we’re watching the jail register – because the more info we get on this, then we can watch the progression of the arrestee through the criminal-justice system, which, for better or worse, in so many previous cases, has proven illuminating. Anyway, we’ll add additional details to this story as soon as we get them – TR

Good to hear. I am glad to hear that they are patroling the streets and looking for someone that looks suspicious. I know it can’t just be all the West Seattle People all the time who see the suspicious looking people all the time.

Yay! Love to see it. Perfect example of being proactive. It can be done without stomping all over people’s rights…

    Great SPD!!!!
    Get those scumbags.
    We love the police.
Too bad they didn’t get the jerks who ripped off my neighbor this afternoon between 10 and 1 on 17th just west of SCCC…

How well do you know your neighbors? I was curious if it would be easy to find folks around my home who might have felony convictions for robber/burlgary, etc. and I was schooled in reality when I found this site and entered my address for my quiet little WS neighborhood.

http://www.felonspy.com – it was eye-opening. This may all be available in other places, but it was the first one I found. I wanted to share for the search functionality I found there – I definitely don’t advocate for the position at the top of the page.

Wayne: In the spike in crime blog, it said that most of the burglaries were 10 or 11am and 4 or 5pm

I wonder if the police have the people responsible for the huge spike?

Is there a way to use the link by address without paying a fee?

Regarding the link to felonspy.com — it is a parasitic, hoax/spam Website providing random, false information. Refer to debunking site Snopes:

I totally believed it! I must be feeling credulous this morning. I was puzzled as to why the results were all men, and why none of the registered sex offenders whom I know live around here were listed.

That saves me. Thanks for being so snsebile!
