High-school basketball: Chief Sealth boys win again at state

From Auburn: In a hard-fought game, the Chief Sealth International High School boys beat Lincoln HS this afternoon as the state 3A basketball tournament continued. Final score: Sealth 63, Lincoln 56. The Seahawks are in the final 8, off to the Tacoma Dome next to play Bellevue at 7:15 pm Thursday. (Here’s a PDF with the brackets.) More to come.

ADDED 6:18 PM: After the jump, our game summary, and video reaction from Sealth principal John Boyd:

From WSB co-publisher Patrick Sand, who covered the game in Auburn:

Keon Lewis spent the fourth quarter pretty much singlehandedly making sure the Seahawks would go to the Tacoma Dome next week as his fourth-quarter run of baskets and free throws put Sealth out in front of Lincoln of Tacoma 63-56.

Until the fourth quarter, Sealth and Lincoln spent about half the game exchanging one- and two-point leads. Lincoln played with an intimidating style that was not seen in Sealth’s regular season play. The Abes played an aggressive game that saw them get a hand on about every ball the Seahawks tried to pass or shoot. During the first half Lincoln was able to strip the ball and recover rebounds, but they had some trouble turning any of it into points. Overall Sealth kept two of the Abe’s more prolific scorers, sophomore forward Tre’Shaun Lexing to four points, all from free throws, and senior guard Terrell Lewis to 12 point, all but three of those being free throws as well.

Pepe Hernandez had a last second three-point buzzer beater to end the third quarter, and that pretty much saw the end of the close game that had transpired up until that point. In the fourth, Sealth controlled the ball. Keon Lewis went on a six-point run as the last quarter started and while Lincoln chipped away at it, it was Lincoln’s fouling of Lewis in the last two minutes of the game that finally put Sealth over the top.

At the top of this story is our clip with the last 30 seconds of the game, where we see Keon score the game’s last three points. After the game, Sealth principal John Boyd talked about the win.

Sealth has beaten its next opponent, Bellevue, already this year – last month at the King Holiday Hoopfest at UW (WSB coverage here)
