West Seattle Crime Watch: Early-morning gunshots?

We’ve received multiple inquiries this morning about suspected shots heard early today somewhere in the Alki/Charlestown Hill area. One was from Ed, who e-mailed, “We heard about 9 distinct gunshots Monday night at about 1:30 am from the 59th & Charlestown area. Not close but easy to hear.” Before anyone else e-mails to ask, we wanted to let you know we do have an inquiry out with police – but we can also tell you nobody WAS shot; the records of that are always clear, via the 911 log, and things on that front were very quiet overnight in West Seattle. So we’re asking police if they found any evidence of shots (casings, property damage, etc.), or fireworks, which “shots?” reports sometimes turn out to be; there’s nothing so far on the maps that highlight some incidents once reports are filed. Will add whatever we hear back.

Pretty sure they were firecrackers. A sharp, loud crack woke me and the next ones I heard were accompanied by flares of light, coming in a window facing south/southwest.

Sounded like fireworks to me. I didn’t remember until I read this post! But, it was loud enough to wake me up!

Well that explains why we had two awake children and two awake dogs join us in bed around that time!

Did not sound like firecrackers to me. Clearly heard 6 shots.

I live on the corner of 59th & Charlestown, I heard a string of firecrackers, some too rapid to be gunfire.

They initially sounded like shots. But at the very end we heard the “woosh” of fireworks burning out.

I live on 63rd and was woken at 2am ( I am pretty sure that was the time) by several shots…maybe 6 or 8 which sounded really nearby. Very loud.
The dog woke and got up barking at the noise. It even woke my husband who said it sounded like gunfire.

Didn’t sound like gunshots to me. Clearly heard fireworks.

Clearly sounded like gunshots at my place too on 64th. Woke my entire family up. Probably depends on where you live and how far away you are from it, for what it sounds like. My husband was also woke up and he thought they were shots as well.

I live on 59th just south of Admiral and I too heard the “shots” and was brought back to the shooting that did occur several months back on 63rd so they woke me right up. When i heard additional “shots” that were rapid-fire and as someone else put it “the whoosh” at the end, I decided they were just firecrackers…

I live on 60th and heard the pops, too. Thought they could have been either firecrackers or gun shots, as immediately after I thought I heard the “whoosh” of a car high-tailing it out of the area. I can see driving off fast after “letting off” either.

I watched the whole thing I was heading to bed, when I saw a car pull over at the corner of 61st and Admiral and light fireworks. Just a bunch of dumb kids goofing off. No gun shots.

Sorry, comment time is over.
