West Seattle Fabric Company now officially open for business

Just moments after officially opening the doors at 11 this morning, West Seattle Fabric Company already had its first customers. It’s been less than 2 months since we brought you first word that Monica Skov would open the shop in the former home of Click! Design That Fits (longtime WSB sponsor that’s now in The Junction), but she is open and enthusiastically welcoming everyone who steps through the door:

That’s Monica and her proud husband and daughter. Today she also unveiled the shop’s official logo, which you’ll see on its window and A-board outside:

West Seattle Fabric Company is at 2210 California SW and will be open until 5 today, noon-4 pm tomorrow. There’s more information on its Facebook page. This is West Seattle’s first fabric store since Hancock Fabrics closed more than 2 years ago to make way for the long-stalled Fauntleroy Place development, where it was supposed to have a new store.

    Hooray!

I need some of those little iron-on dot patches. Used to be able to buy little packets of them but haven’t seen them in years?

I was excited to see a nice little shop open close to where I live. I waited until late this afternoon to go in. When I went in, there were only 3 or 4 other people in there. Looked like the owners husband was by the register, and she was upstairs. I walked the whole store and not once was I acknowledged, or even said Hello to. Not too good to ignore someone on your “Grand Opening” when your not even busy. Not too anxious to go back. Nice fabrics, but too spendy for us “beach bums”……….I give it a year at best.

Hoping they have power this morning….. Anyone know?

Storefront was dark when I drove by. BUT they are not scheduled to open for today until noon anyway, so there’s lots of time for repairs. We’ll be watching closely and updating all morning (and beyond if needed). Will be going back through Admiral for progress report after checking on Delridge/Highland Park.

What wonderful news. I’m a quilter and have been ordering online. Great news about your shop. You are so welcome in West Seattle.

A message from WS Fabric Company – We are headed to the store in a few minutes. We are hoping that regardless of power we can continue with our Grand Opening Celebration. Bring your patience, flashlights and checkbook or cash as back up form of payment :)

When you asked me on my first visit what I wanted in a local fabric store, I was stunned. No one had asked me that question before! I mumbled something but here goes with a more substantial answer:
-I want a store that emphasizes quilting but not just for quilts; creative garments as well (jackets, vests). I need all the findings, too, from batting to buttons and a small selection of interfacings.
-I want a store that equips me to mend and alter – thread and machine needles in various weights, Velcro, hem tape.
-I want a store that inspires with examples. If you scare up interesting patterns, I will buy the fabric. A sample pattern will do, with the web address so I can order it myself without your having to keep an inventory.
-I want a store that impresses me at first sight with the possibility that I will find what I want/need. In other words, chockful.
-I want a store that sells the remnants. If I don’t need a thing, chances are I will buy because I found an interesting addition to my stash in the remnant bin.

Mostly, though, I want a store. Thanks for creating one!!!

K- I’m absolutely horrified that you had such a bad experience, I take total responsibility for not introducing myself. I’d love for you to come in again. I know your experience will be much better. – Monica

Hooray!!! I hate driving up to the top of Queen Anne Hill to go to the only other non-chain fabric store in the metro area. I live in a suburb southeast of Seattle, but I will gladly drive to West Seattle’s Admiral Junction to check out this store. Congratulations on your new enterprise.

Sorry, comment time is over.
