Bird on a Wire Espresso expanding into Admiral District

A few nights ago, Bird on a Wire Espresso in Westwood tweeted a mysterious few words about an upcoming presence in Admiral. We e-mailed a follow-up question; the reply came tonight, with this announcement:

Our little Bird has spread her wings!

We are joining sweet forces with Heavenly Pastry in the Admiral Junction … opening soon at 2604 California Ave SW!

We will offer all the same things you have grown to love at the “Mamma Bird.” Beer and wine may not happen right away, but our offerings will include Heavenly scones,

MORE DELICIOUS PASTRIES they can provide to us, sandwiches, soups, smoothies and delights from our current vendors. We will continue to use Raven’s Brew Coffee.

Stay tuned via our website, Facebook and Twitter for more information including actual opening date, hours of operation (we will open at 6 am weekdays) and more things to come!!!!

And YES, we will continue to operate at 3509 SW Henderson St!!

Heavenly Pastry closed its retail storefront just four weeks ago, while saying it would continuing to bake at that location.

Good for them! We’ll continue to go mostly to the old place since that’s our neighborhood — but always extremely glad to hear about a local independent business doing well enough to expand, especially these days.

Mini-heart attack over here, at first thinking it meant they would close the one in my ‘hood. I love the birdie, and especially love the super sweet barista who is a dead-ringer for a young Val Kilmer. :-D
So happy to hear they are expanding!

    They’re fine, but don’t mess with Freshy’s!

Maybe they should expand to alki too. I think I know the perfect place;-)

I was just thinking last week that someone should partner with the pastry shop and get it back open! Can’t wait to try it.

Congratulations! Sounds like a match made in heaven!

I finally tried BoaW after buying the Groupon recently; can’t believe I didn’t know about this little gem in my own neighborhood! Super friendly, great drinks… Count yourselves lucky, Admiral dwellers!

It’s so cool, we were just saying: they need espresso–and now they’ll have it! Can’t wait!

This is great news. Bird on a Wire was an awesome find for us because we like the Raven’s Brew, but we live in the Admiral District. I am glad to hear we will have them in our neighborhood now. That being said, I certainly hope the space will get the serious remodel it needs (not the least of which includes ripping out that terrible, dirty, office carpet from the days of the newspaper) to be a more welcoming space in which people want to linger over good coffee and food. I read many reactions to Heavenly regarding the atmosphere and decor (or lack thereof) in that space. I hope Bird will bring the great vibe from its original location to this sorely-in-need-of-help spot!!

I was just talking with my girlfriend about how admiral only had Starbucks for espresso and another indie shop should do extremely well in this neighborhood. The fact it is my favorite shop that I frequent every morning, ‘cept on the weekends is almost too good to be true! Can’t wait!

will they be hiring at new location =)

  • Elise November 18, 2010 (1:39 pm)

Rock on Heidi! Sisters are doing it for themselves! Did you know that for every $100 spent at a local small business – $68 returns to the community? Congratulations. Small businesses rock. WOOF!

  • Lori November 18, 2010 (4:56 pm)

Raven’s Brew is the best! So glad there will be another place to get it.

  • Will o the wisp November 19, 2010 (8:32 am)

If they are successful, maybe they would eventually use the Alki Bakery space.

Just an update that “Bird Deux” is up and running in the Heavenly Pastry space at 2604 California Ave SW. Heavenly Pastry will continue their wholesale operations at that location and has graciously invited the Bird to “nest” with them, running their former retail operation (they will also provide us pastries-what’s YOUR favorite?!). Thanks so much for all your comments and do please stop by, we are interested in meeting our new Admiral community! Hours are 6am to 2pm Mon-Fri, Sat 7am to 2pm and Sun 8am to 2pm. We certainly do anticipate extending those hours…stay tuned!

Sorry, comment time is over.
