More West Seattle alley dumping: Tire pile turns up

The last time we published a debris-dumping report, a little over two weeks ago, much discussion ensued, along with some potential clues. We don’t know if the source was ultimately traced – but tonight we have a new dumping report, from Val in Westwood, who also shared the photo:

Found this pile of tires today after getting home from the Football game; I don’t believe they were there this morning. Garbage is next to the tires but appears to have been there a while. This is in the alley between 35th Ave SW and 34th Ave SW, and between Trenton and Cloverdale, closer to Cloverdale. Not that big of a deal but they do kind of block the alley. Is this kind of thing becoming more common? I have filed an illegal dumping report.

You can file those reports online, as one commenter pointed out in last month’s report, by going here.

Tires have serial numbers on them which can be traced to the buyer.

That’s the serial number of the mold used I am pretty sure, not the sn of an individual tire.

I live near 35th & 102nd. Around dinner time, a white pickup driven by a young Caucasian male, the bed heaped with tires, cruised the alley behind my house. They shouted at a neighbor who was outside, asking if he had any metal. I wanted to get their license number, but couldn’t see it. They (there was one passenger, same description as driver) were clearly up to no good. We’ve had tires dumped in our alley in the past.

This morning as I waited for bus at 100th & 42nd I noticed a police car slowly cruising 100th and stoping to look down the alleys both sides of 42nd. Then they turned around and headed south on 42nd at a pretty decent clip. There must have been some suspicious alley activity going on this morning!

Was the white p/u you saw a chevey 4×4 king cab, bed rails, and oversized side mirrors (for pulling a small trailor)? I have a photo of the same truck w/2 wht males cruising our neighborhood 2 weeks ago perusing our neighbor’s houses and car ports.

I discovered an incident of illegal dumping in our alley this morning. Evidently, according to neighbors, the act occurred sometime on Sunday. After sifting through the Uhaul boxes I discovered personal items along with mail, pictures, ID, etc., and promptly called police. They responded immediately, a report was filed, and the officer confiscated the personal items. I also filed a report on-line. Evidently Seattle Public Utilities will, if a report is filed and the incident is on public property (alleys qualify), will investigate and remove the mess. This incident occurred in the alley behind the 8600 block of 32nd SW. Thankfully for the perps they did not dump the items behind my property as I have a security camera mounted below motion activated lights on the back of my garage.

To David and other potential victims. Suppose I have some junk and i hire one of them ” Hobo and sons Junk haulers Co” from the cardboard sign on my street. They give me the best deal west of Mississippi to haul my junk. They take my garbage, I give them cash ( of course)… They are gone ,I never see them again…
So, If you find my personal mail and junk in your back alley and call the cops, where does it lead??? It’s a cold case…
    Who is at fault here???

  • rick September 14, 2010 (7:03 am)

That would be you, Baba. Pay the right price.

Baba, why on earth would anyone hire a couple of hobos to haul away their personal mail, or include mail in any such haul? Leaving personal mail at an illegal dumping site may not lead anywhere, but it does indicate either a very stupid criminal or very stupid customer.

George, I can’t say for sure what make or model the truck was, but it fit your description. As they were looking for metal, I wonder if they remove the rims from tires and then dump the rubber? There was also what looked like a newer black wheelbarrow on the truck – anyone missing a wheelbarrow?

By personal mail I meant just something with my name and address on it. There is no harm you can do with this info. It’s all public knowledge anyway.

Babba, you wrote: “So, If you find my personal mail and junk in your back alley and call the cops, where does it lead?” Also: “What is the harm?” Well, with ID in the debris it is possibly a lead to the perp(s) and a $1500 fine. There is harm to be done with blank personal checks (yes – they were in the mess) and social security numbers. Q.E.D.

Baba, i once got a bill in the mail from the city for clean-up of dumped material near low income housing. I pursued it because i use city garbage and recycling and my stuff should not be dumped in a ravine. Turns out they had photos of bags and boxes of trash and one of the boxes had my name and address on it. It had been an old shipping box that i had left on my porch for one of those donation pick-ups. The pick-up had occurred as i had a receipt, but the box was evidentally reused again. lesson learned: remove your address from any boxes that you discard, or risk getting a bill for clean-up.

Did anyone see any 3×5 glossy photographs of the garbage to be used as evidence in a court of law?

Sorry, comment time is over.
