Admiral Safeway demolition: What’s briefly revealed

As noisy and dusty as demolition can be, it can sometimes lead to fleeting scenes you might even consider beautiful. Diane shared these photos from the Admiral Safeway site, taken last night – note the old clock suddenly front and center:

Also revealed, curving framework:

And then the newer facade, still standing:

Another look:

As we’ve noted the past few days, you can now check in on a webcam focused on the site – see it here. P.S. Looking further back into the week, Christopher Boffoli got this video as the major demolition began a couple days ago – coverage of other stories got in the way of publishing it till now:

thanks, Diane and Christopher. Great pics and video. The noise from the tear down has been quite something this week, but…doesn’t that look like a fun job, tearing into the building like that?

WOW I thought they were just going to be doing interior renovation not demo the whole this. Jans it would be fun to hit that building with a big wrecking ball!! Can’t wait to see the finished results.

I was impressed at how little effort it took the business end of that shovel to just knock through those cinder block walls. He was just gingerly pulling them down.

I’ll have to pay attention on Monday to see if those front “pillars” come down, and how easily. Interesting seeing the original parts of the original Safeway before the store was remodeled .

@JanS – I think they’d pretty much have to tear the whole thing down to have it look like this:

Thanks for posting TR; I have about 20 more pics that I may post to FB, if I can figure out how; anyone have quick easy tips for posting pics for all to see on here, on twitter, on Facebook?

D – If you post to a Flickr gallery you can just share the link – do you have a Flickr account? I think Flickr also has crossposting abilities for Twitter and FB. Thanks again, those were the first demolition photos I’ve ever wanted to call “gorgeous” … TR

Ahhh, thanks TR; I was concerned it was too dark and the pics wouldn’t show anything, so I was happy with the outcome

This sounds totally silly but I will miss that Safeway! When I moved here 5 years ago it was the first store I frequented so I have happy memories of it just the way it was. I guess progress is progress, though…

Sorry, comment time is over.
