Who’s having fun where: This weekend’s citywide traffic alerts

This weekend’s big events in West Seattle – the Alki Car Show on Saturday, the West Seattle Outdoor Movies debut Saturday night (“Mamma Mia!”), the West Seattle Garden Tour on Sunday (latter two co-sponsored by WSB – aren’t blocking streets. But elsewhere around the city, this weekend’s big events might land you in the middle of some changes. Read on for the latest list from SDOT:

It’s a big weekend coming up packed with events from Friday morning, July 16, through Sunday night, July 18. Over nine thousand bicyclists will test their stamina this weekend with the big Seattle to Portland (STP) bicycle ride; while another two thousand will swim, ride and run in the Seafair Triathlon taking place along the shores and in the waters of Lake Washington. Yet thousands more will put their taste buds to the test as they try different foods at the Bite of Seattle taking place at the Seattle Center. Other Seafair celebrations drawing huge crowds include the Bon Odori Festival, the Indian Days Pow Wow and the Classic Hot Rod Show.

The Seattle Department of Transportation warns motorists that there will be traffic congestion accompanying the various events and to plan accordingly. Drivers are encouraged to consider taking alternate modes of transportation – the Sounder commuter train, Link light rail, Metro Transit, car pool, bicycle or walk, if feasible. Stay in WS on Sunday and support the West Seattle Garden Tour and our 2010 beneficiaries! This is shaping up to be our best Tour yet -the gardens look fantastic and the weather is going to be perfect for touring. Check out our website: http://www.westseattlegardentour.com. Plenty of tickets are still available and WSGT volunteers will be outside WS NUrsery on Sunday selling tickets. Stop by and say hello and pick up a ticket or 2!

speaking of weekend traffic, don’t forget the strawberry festival on Vashon this weekend. last time we went, I remember lots of traffic at the ferry and then on Vashon.

True. And White Center Jubilee Days will have a street or two closed off in WC, including parade time on Sunday morning.

Sorry, comment time is over.
