Stabbing update: Victim said to be stable; suspect’s bail, $1 million

(Friday afternoon photo by Christopher Boffoli)
Two updates tonight in the High Point stabbing case from Friday afternoon — already reported in the comment section following our original story, but we realize not everyone checks back: First, we now have two reports that the 40-year-old victim is in stable condition; we’d checked with police earlier today and that’s also the newest information they had. Second, while we won’t find out about possible charges against the suspect any earlier than tomorrow, the King County Jail Register says the 22-year-old suspect’s bail is set at $1 million. Many people have asked if there’s anything they can do to help the victim and her family; we’ll publish any updates we get along those lines, but haven’t heard anything yet.

Whew, so glad she’s in stable condition. Thanks for the update WSB. I know everyone is waiting to hear about a motive, but I think we must prepare ourselves for the fact that we may never know. The crime might go unexplained, which will be difficult for a community like HP full of great problem solvers and committed “fixers”. I say this with love because I am a card carrying member of this group!

I was at HP Walgreens last night and was talking to a friend about the stabbing. A guy in the store overheard us and said that he was friends with the stabber (!) and the stabber had recently become schizophrenic and was starting medication for it.

If that is true, maybe it makes an ounce of sense out of the enormous tragedy that it still is.

Hearing this somehow shifted my perspective from wanting to throw rocks at him (literally, this is my neighborhood!) to thinking about a young man trying to get help and maybe not finding the right meds in time. Sad for all involved.

Interesting Dogwalker, thanks for sharing. KOMO is reporting witnesses asked him why he stabbed her and he said “it was my job”, which makes me think he might suffer from schizophrenia. I agree it does change the perspective.

Psychological problems were my suspicion as well and were also involved in the kidnapping case on 4/7 on the same block.

… in which no charges have been filed as of my last check at the end of last week. Still awaiting word on documentation today in this one … TR

I am a mom of 4 boys, and one of my sons happens to be good friends with the suspect. The suspect has been in my home many many times, and he is normally a gentle, and polite young man, whom by the way kept a 40 hour a week job at a local retail store for more than a year. To know him, and to hear this, it just is so not like the sweet young man we all know and love. However, we did suspect, and now know that he is Schizophrenic, and it often comes on at his age, or it comes on between the ages of 18 and 30. It is more common in men, and it often is related to some form of trauma, but is also genetic. IT in itself is a complete tragedy, not to mention the devastation done to his family and the victim and her family as well. Lets not spend any time calling him names, or attacking his character, but lets pray for his lost soul, and damaged mind.
Let’s pray for all of our children, sons and daughters, that we learn more about severe mental illness, and can find treatment that works, thus preventing people from ” hearing voices ” that tell them to kill, or that someone is trying to come up through the plumbing to get them.

As for the victim and her family, may she heal completely, body and soul, and understand, that it was not an attack on her personally, but a random horrible snap with reality, that caused a sweet , friendly, an d a bit shy young man, completely break with reality, and did what the voices in his head told him to do.

I work at a hospital, and I see these sweet, young men and women, that are completely damaged, and our society still has no place or desire to help them. Just to rid them from our streets, and then back onto the streets because there is no care, or rehab for them.

My heart bleeds for all involved, and I think instead of pointing fingers, and hating, for once, turn inward, and ask yourself what can you do to help those like the suspect, in need of real help, real treatment! IF you cannot be part of the solution, at least do not compound the problem.

    Peace to all,

    A concerned Mom
