Saints win the Super Bowl – Hotwire Coffee customers called it

You might recall, Hotwire Online Coffeehouse (WSB sponsor) was running an informal Super Bowl poll – offering two special drinks, either of which you could buy to cast a vote for one of the Super Bowl teams. We took the photo above while visiting Hotwire late this morning; proprietor Lora Lewis says the Saints kept the lead even before the game – so Hotwire customers called it! (Saints 31-Colts 17 was the final, in case you’re checking in from a football-free zone.) P.S. One other Super Bowl note if you haven’t seen this a zillion places already – you can find The Commercials in this special YouTube collection.

Oh yeah, a lot of science involved in that one! Who wants to go to Vegas?

Could it be that the Colts drink sounded so horrible?

4thGen, we’ll admit we ordered the cinnamon mocha (Saints) because it sounded better. In that case, we could just say Hotwire’s Lora matched a winning drink and a winning team … Hmm, wonder if we can expect Oscar drinks, might be too complicated since there are 10 Best Pic nominees this year!

Yeah, but they’d have to pull out that blueberry contraption again for Avatar… Might not work out come Oscar time.

Did customers have the option to purchase one of the special drinks, but put their vote toward the other team? I would have been pretty disappointed if I were a Colts fan but had to purchase a nasty blueberry white mocha in order to “vote” for them. Blech! Cinnamon and dark chocolate complement coffee much better than blueberries.
Actually, back when I was a barista at Cupcake Royale, we had high-quality syrups, and the fruit flavors actually contained some small amount of juice. This meant that if one tried to combine a fruit syrup and milk, as in a latte or mocha, the milk would curdle. It was disgusting, and I’d warn customers, but some would still insist on their (curdled) orange or raspberry mocha. :(
I never liked the flavor combination anyway, but after seeing that, I’m even more grossed out by the fruit/milk/espresso combo.

Oh, the trick to using realy fruit syrups is to put it in after you pour the milk, it’s how the pros do it :)

Hello… I reside in New Orleans and read your blog spot. I would like to thank all of you in Seattle who knew that our Saints are an incredible team. They are the heart of this city and are an entity that holds us together year after year. No matter how good or how bad, we love our Saints. All of us in New Orleans who know the Saints, knew there Post Season run, and the win in the Super Bowl was capable by this team. They have played this year like no other year, and our confidence in their ability to “Finish Strong” is what made this possible. This includes the support from other cities and individuals around the country that know we have a special team. So… Thank you again Seattle!!

Sorry, comment time is over.
