New Admiral restaurant/pub Porterhouse opens Wednesday

Porterhouse, the new restaurant/pub in the old Blackbird Bistro space by Admiral Theater, is opening at 3 pm Wednesday – just got that confirmed from a staffer. First to report it was the West Seattle-headquartered Washington Beer Blog, via Twitter (@beerblog). Also, thanks to Sarah, who e-mailed us a little while ago about a note on Porterhouse’s door announcing the Wednesday opening. Our most recent update on Porterhouse was this story on July 22nd; our first report was June 5th. Toplines, from those previous stories: It’ll be open to all ages; food hours 11 am-11 pm for starters; menu “gastro-pub … pub food with a twist”; 25 taps (21 added to the space’s pre-existing four!).

A gastro pub with 25 taps? How exciting! One of the few restaurant niches W. Seattle hasn’t filled yet. Now we just need Neopolitan pizza, good Vietnamese, a French bistro, and affordable sushi. I really hope having another pub in the ‘hood inspires Circa to put another server on the floor. I love the food there, but can’t stand the absent service when the place is full.

    Meghan,

Are you kidding about Circa? If they put another server on the floor they would have to serve people in the alley. We eat there once every week or two and the service is always spot-on. I would still love a little more variety and welcome Porterhouse and the soon to arrive Brickyard BBQ. We also walked by Porterhouse last night, they were doing a “friends and family” walk through to get the bugs out before opening night. We then walked across the street and spoke with someone (not the owner) at Brickyard who said they hope to be open in 2 weeks or so. He said it would be Texas style BBQ and the cook was the BBQ chef for Bill Gates. My only question was, does Bill eat that much BBQ that he needs a BBQ chef??

I ate at Angelina’s last night and noticed that people were at Porterhouse dining. My BF thought that Blackbird was open again b/c their signage is still up…Porterhouse better do something about that quick!

An Ethiopian place would be great too.

Azuma has affordable sushi (compared to Mashiko), but I really don’t know that I want to go too “budget” on something like sushi. Mashiko trying to go 100% sustainable though (and their food is great).

oooh. Ethiopian would be most excellent.

CMP – I don’t think there’s Blackbird signage up any more, that’s the new Porterhouse signage.

Does anyone know if the menu is going to be different than the Mount Vernon location? That menu looks good but not that adventurous when compared to most places that claim to be “gastro-pubs”.

I haven’t been to Mt Vernon location, but at the sneak preview party last night we got a peek at the menu and sampled several things. I don’t know if it’s a “gastro-pub,” that might be exaggerating things a bit. However, the menu is more adventuresome and fresh than a typical pub menu. For example the handcut fries have truffled salt, the hotwings are marinated in IPA and have a chipotle gorgonzola ranch dipping sauce, and the garden burger is made from quinoa and topped with smoked gouda. There are a lot of vegetarian and gluten-free options, and also a children’s menu (the Porterhouse is family friendly).

I talked to someone that was to the invite-only soft opening last night and he said that if the kitchen can keep up with the quality that was presented for the soft opening, we are in for a taste treat. One of the examples he mentioned was french fries with truffle salt. yummmm…

When I read “Porterhouse,” I hoped it was a new steakhouse. A bit misleading, and I’m sure it’ll disappoint more than a few patrons who show up looking for, well…a porterhouse!

That aside; congrats to the new owners, and I’ll be visiting soon. Best of luck to our newest West Seattle business!

Jose and others…it’s listed online(no website yet that I could find) as The Porter House…makes more sense that way…Porter, as in something you drink (considering they’re gonna have 25 different brews on tap)..

and who knows…maybe they WILL have at least one steak dish on the menu :)

  • Jose August 12, 2009 (1:18 am)

Thank you, Jan! That makes more sense.
In any case, I’ll be visiting soon…my birthday is coming up, maybe this will be my party place!

Porterhouse, by its name sounds like a steak place.

Azuma sushi is not very good. If Shiro’s or the now closed Saito’s rates five stars, and Mashiko rates 3 or 4 stars, Azuma is like 1 or two stars by comparison. When you walk into the place, it smells bad. I can make way better tempura at home than they can, and I can’t say that mine is great either!

West Seattle needs a couple more sushi places, a Trader Joes’s, a Fred Meyer, and great Chinese food.

  • WS local August 12, 2009 (11:44 am)

Agreed that we need a Trader Joe’s. Especially now that it looks like the Whole Foods may not be built – ?
Looking forward to trying another new restaurant in WS so I’ll put Porter House on the list.

Can’t wait to try out the new place in West Seattle. Although – I can’t imagine it comes close to the coziness and amazing food served up at Circa. I disagree with the comment about the service there, I love the Circa ladies. They are over half the reason I go there. That place is always busy because it RULES! Hopefully both Porterhouse and Circa will be very succesful.

Went to the Porterhouse over the weekend and it was yumo. I will be going back. It is nice to have more options in WS

My wife and I ate there last night and the food was absolutely fabulous!! I had a bowl of the clam chowder – it was made to order, from scratch and was the BEST clam chowder I have ever eaten. I would highly recommend this dish to anyone who loves a good chowder!

Awesome place, good food! I will go there again real soon. :)

Great salad, good burgers, great beer.
Oyster poboy nauseating. Huge oysters very runny inside, tasted off, likely spoiled. Kitchen replaced with burger.
I’d go back for salad and beer. Friendly service.

Sorry, comment time is over.
