Another traffic alert: The official citywide weekend roundup

Throughout the summer, SDOT has been issuing these roundups toward week’s end, to let everyone know where traffic might be affected around the city on Friday/Saturday/Sunday. We’ve been sharing them because we know you just might want to venture off the peninsula. No West Seattle events this time around (though plenty’s going on, as usual), but read on for the roundup:

This coming weekend, August 14-16, brings another round of
sports events and festivals featuring food and fun. Motorists should
expect heavy traffic surrounding the event sites. The Seattle Department
of Transportation (SDOT) encourages residents and visitors to consider
shrinking their carbon footprints by trying other modes of travel such
as walking, cycling or taking the bus.

Thursday, August 13
Seattle Mariners versus the New York Yankees 7:10 p.m. – 10 p.m.
Safeco Field
35,000 expected
Plan on heavy traffic around the stadium before and after the game.

Friday, August 14
Sunset Supper at the Market: 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. .
1,150 expected
Streets closed: 3 p.m. – 11:59 p.m. Pike Place (Pike –Virginia
streets) and Stewart Street (First Avenue – Pike Place).

Seattle Mariners versus the New York Yankees 7:10 p.m. – 10 p.m.
Safeco Field
40,000 expected
Plan on heavy traffic around the stadium before and after the game.

Saturday, August 15
Seattle Hempfest 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Myrtle Edwards Park
36,000 attending
Expect traffic congestion near the park. Bicyclists must dismount and
walk their bikes through the park.

Leschi Park Centennial 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.
500 expected
Expect traffic congestion near the park.
Seattle Police Southwest Precinct Picnic: 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
420 attending
Streets closed: 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. SW Webster Street (Delridge Way SW
– 24th Avenue SW)

40,000 expected
Plan on heavy traffic around the stadium before and after the game.

Sunday, August 16
Seattle Danskin Women’s Triathlon: 6:45 a.m. – 12 p.m.
10,850 participants expected
5,000 spectators
Genesee Park and surrounding area along Lake Washington Boulevard, and
Lake Washington.
Streets closed: Some begin at 4:30 a.m. and others at 6:15 a.m. –
vicinity of Genesee Park/Lake Washington Boulevard S (Seward Park –
I-90). Lake Washington Boulevard will open to bicyclists at 10 a.m. for
Bicycle Sunday. Parking for event will be at the Qwest Field North Lot
and participants will then be shuttled to Genesee Park.

    I love this feature, it will help when I’m planning my weekend and the drive home to the north end during the week. Iwork in seattle and this is great to check out which broute to take anbd also doubles as an event calender…..great way to keep up with what’s happening where and what areas to avoid traffic wish…thanks keep up the good work where!
