Update: House fire on 31st north of Roxbury; everyone out OK

(cameraphone photo added 7:55 pm)
Crews are arriving at a house in the 9300 block of 31st Place SW (map) — reporting heavy smoke from multiple windows of the single-story home. Residents tell the firefighters, according to the scanner, that everybody’s out OK. 7:49 PM UPDATE: We’re on scene. They’re scaling back the size of the response. The fire was described as a kitchen fire spreading to the attic, and firefighters had to cut into the roof for ventilation.

The smoke has cleared and it appears to be in mopup phase.

8:37 PM UPDATE: Fire crews confirm nobody was hurt. They aren’t sure yet what started the fire; investigators were arriving to start working on figuring that out. ADDED: Cameraphone video shot from across the street by Conrad:

We’ll check Friday morning to see if investigators pinpointed the fire’s cause.

I live on 35th, near station 37 and wondered what the sirens were about. I knew I’d find the answer here!

This happened about a block away from my house. We saw smoke while walking to the bowling alley and heard sirens approaching. Amazing response. We counted 7 fire engines 2 ambulances and a couple of other official vehicles, one marked “safety”. At one point there must have been about 25 fire personnel at the scene. I have cellphone video that I’ll send in shortly.

Yes, very nice photos. Hopefully his (iPhone?) isn’t damaged after he accidentally dropped in the street in his zeal to capture the unfolding scene.

We dropped ours five months ago and the screen is so badly cracked it looks like someone shot it. However, it still functions just fine. And we’re hoping it holds out another five months till we can get an upgrade/replacement for a REASONABLE price! – TR

As I posted on a WSB Forums thread a few months ago; “The I-Phone. It takes a dinging, and keeps on ringing!” ;)
