Door-to-door alerts: 2 solicitor reports

For those who track door-to-door sightings – both e-mailers say they have no proof these aren’t legitimate, but they wanted to share word of the sightings – read on if you’re interested:

First – a report of a solicitor in Upper Fauntleroy, near 40th and Thistle, walking around offering “window assessments.”

Second, from Amy in South Delridge:

There’s a guy going door to door in the South Delridge area. He just came by our place near Delridge and Trenton, pounding on the doors of all the neighbors as well as ours. He’s wearing khaki colored short sleeve shirt, ballcap, and an orange safety vest with reflectors on it, carrying a clipboard. I couldn’t tell what kind of pants. He got one of my neighbors to answer the door and I thought I heard him say he was with Comcast. Whatever he was selling, he was offering a “new contract” on it.

He or someone dressed like him was here last week around this time of the evening also. Time to put up a No Solicitors sign I guess.

Comcast has previously confirmed they do use door-to-door reps, though they generally do not comment on specific reports. Reminder, the city rules for door-to-door solicitors are linked from the “resources” section at the bottom of our Crime Watch page.

we had a comcast rep come knocking a few months back, same description. He was legit, and we got a great deal on bundling our services. Thought I would share…..

ditto for me a few weeks ago. Just got the digital upgrade with basic though….no increased cost but I do have more channels.

A man came to our house in Westwood yesterday driving a car (not a Comcast van) with Michigan plates, stating his name was Danny Guy and he worked for Comcast and was going door to door to review each Comcast plan with the owners. I didn’t buy a new package from him, although he was perfectly cordial, I thought it was strange that Comcast would send someone out door to door. He didn’t wear a vest, or any other Comcast nametag.

Thanks for the comment Tony. Many Door to Door reps are legit and offer customers great service. Many people don’t have time or patience to stay on top of the services they use and do not know what alternitves is avalible. Plus a face to face meeting it is a lot easier to get all you questions answered. And Finnally unlike signing up over the phone you get your offer in writing.

I had two guys come to my door a few weeks ago stating they were from Comcast, and needed to see my signal strength to be sure that my setup was ready for digital conversion. I was suspicious, and did not let them in the house. They kept pushing to come inside and “check my system.” They had clipboards with comcast stuff, but no van and street clothes. They seemed harmless, but the story smelled funny. If I have a problem with my signal I will call for an appointment. Unsolicited door to door visits are never welcome at my home.

I have had two door to door reps for the same company “Pioneer” soliciting for window replacements in less than 2 weeks.. Both wore black shirts and black hats with “Pioneer” on them Both clean cut men in their 30s?

Point is 2x in less than 2 weeks? When I pointed this out, the second solicitor blithely said: “Oh maybe I’m in the wrong territory.” Then he proceeded to tell me how others would be in area to assess window situations and wanted to make an appointment. Maybe legit…but really, would you buy new windows (expensive) from a door to door salesman?

A few days ago a guy from Penguin Windows showed up at the door offering free window assessments and an estimate. When we told him we didn’t want to make an appointment, he kept pushing: “Oh, come on, man! I just need a few more appointments to meet my quota!” We finally made an appointment to make him leave and then called the company and cancelled. I also looked up Penguin Windows online and they have horrible reviews about pushy salespeople and overpriced products. Avoid the trouble and don’t answer your door.

Sorry, comment time is over.
