West Seattle school search: Lots of tours today

Fall seems far away – unless you are in the process of deciding where your child(ren) will go to school next September. Today’s a busy school-tour day around West Seattle, so here are the highlights:

Denny Middle School tour: 8:15-9:15 this morning
Lafayette and Schmitz Park Elementaries’ tours: 9:30-11 am today
Arbor Heights Elementary tours: 9:30-11:30 am today
West Seattle Montessori (WSB sponsor) tours: 6-8 tonight
Chief Sealth High School‘s open house/Choices Night: 6:30-8:30 tonight (here’s the flyer)

The master list of all upcoming Seattle Public Schools tours is linked from atop the WSB Events Calendar; other tours/open houses are listed on the calendar; and you can check individual schools’ websites from the WSB Schools page. P.S. As Oliver points out in comments, many tours require/prefer advance sign-ups, so call the school first.

The Center School had an open house last night and I met several WS families there. there’s a tour today but it’s full.

There will be another open house on Feb 11th 6 to 8pm and one or two more added due to the enrollment extension this year.

Daytime Tours: February 13 – 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Families may sign up, first come first serve, for a day tour once they have attended an evening open house. Space is limited.

Many of the elementary school tours I’ve been on lately have been full, so be sure to call first to check if there is room. Lafayette got particularly testy when someone showed up with out reserving a space first. Other schools seem more gracious.

Good point. We are just back from Lafayette after photographing the superintendent joining the tour there and apparently it was a full house – TR

Lafayette’s tours are so extensive! Had all of my
questions answered, and everyone was friendly. They probably just want everyone to make an appointment so that they can provide enough materials and tour guides for everyone. I’m sorry that “Oliver” didn’t have the same experience.

There’s nothing wrong with Lafayette wanting parents to make an appointment, they can plan ahead and make sure there are enough tour guides and info packets to hand out. It’s also less disruptive to instructional time knowing how many people to except. Lafayette is a great school with a great staff!

Sorry, comment time is over.
