Cancer takes Salty’s spokesperson Eileen Mintz

Didn’t know this till we read the Times obituary: Salty’s spokesperson Eileen Mintz died a week ago. We never got to meet her in person, but appreciated her swift responses to our Salty’s-related queries, including the one that resulted in this 1/08 update on a potential Salty’s hotel. In our correspondence at the time, she mentioned her fight against cancer, while cheerily declaring herself “too busy to die.” Ms. Mintz was 66; the eulogy given for her by TV reporter Herb Weisbaum can be read on the Salty’s site, where she had written monthly “Mintz Her Words” updates; a memorial website is set up here (screen grab at left).

Eileen was a wonderful woman with so much positive energy. She singlehandedly put Salty’s “back on the map” – truly talented with words and had so many great connections. I witnessed her handle more than one difficult situation with class and dignity for both sides – truly gifted with people. And so much style! She will be missed by all she touched.

The first time I met Eileen came around Christmas of 2007. Her verve and energy were amazing. As we talked she told me she was ill, but you’d never believe it was anything more than a fleeting cold. Most of our conversation revolved around her belief that blog were THE up and coming way for businesses to get the word about what they do. Then she shifted gears and told me about her grandkids.

She said she had no interest in giving in – she was just going to keep going and dare the cancer to keep up with her.

I had no reason to doubt her.

Sure does. And I would be remiss not to mention that the kickoff meeting to plan this year’s cancer-fighting Relay for Life in West Seattle is coming up this Wednesday, 2/11, 6:30 pm, and in fact .. it’s happening AT Salty’s – TR

Eileen was fantastic and will be missed by many. I’m inspired by her attitude; not once in the two years I knew her…not once was there ever a negative word from Eileen.

Eileen was quite helpful in helping us to promote the BHS Guild’s cookbook “Sound Bites” for Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. She was a firecracker and will be missed by all those whose lives she touched.

Sorry, comment time is over.
