Snow aftermath: New West Seattle power outage, in Gatewood

Moments after a media advisory from Seattle City Light‘s Mike Eagan announced that everyone citywide has their power back — he sent word to WSB that there’s a new “small power outage” in West Seattle: “It’s affecting up to 120 customers and the estimated time of restoration is 4 p.m. The boundaries are SW Holly St. on the north, SW Southern St. on the south, 34th Ave. SW on the east and 44th Ave. SW on the west.” Most of that area’s in Gatewood; the boundaries are often wider than the actual outage – but these would potentially include some of the south Morgan Junction businesses, so we’ll head down the hill to check on them shortly. 12:30 PM UPDATE: Co-publisher Patrick just traveled through that business district – no power problems apparent, so it must be elsewhere within the “boundaries.”

We had an outage last night at 24th and Holden – the whole complex was down from 10:00pm until about 3:00am. Was it just us?

That likely would have been part of the major outage that included us (as detailed in other posts), though we and others didn’t get power back till just after 6.

I felt very fortunate that the power didn’t go out on my block, considering that we’ve had a few outages since the big storm 2 years ago, when I can only recall one, prior to the storm, that lasted more than a few minutes, in my then six or so years at this residence.

    .

Now feel even more fortunate after finding out the north boundry was Holly St, my immediate south crossstreet.

I used to live right on Holly St, frequent outages there. I see it hasn’t changed since I left!

I’m on 44th near Ida. We are going on 18 hours without power. What’s up City Light?! There are only 2 outages left. Why can’t you get a crew out here? I wish I hadn’t done the big grocery shopping trip yesterday.

I’m near 44th and Webster, my power has been back for about 20 min. The house is beginning to warm back up.. it was 53 degrees when I got home about 10 min. ago.

My husband is a crazy planner and after last storm he decided to have a better contingency plan just in case we lost power. So when the power went out last night on 41st and Ida, without telling me, he made hotel reservations for the following night. Apparently he is afraid the power will go out for days and we will freeze to death. He did not, however, check to see what the cancelation policy is. Needless to say, I am writing this comment from Hotel Monaco, downtown. Our son thinks we are nuts.
