 |   How to help

Since we’ve covered more than the usual share of disheartening news this week – although with the heartening flip side of people reaching out to share information and help – we thought we’d call attention to a few ways you can do good this weekend. First, please note there are many MORE ways to do something good, listed in the West Seattle Weekend Lineup, including work parties in West Seattle green spaces, the North Delridge Adopt-a-Street cleanup we mentioned here on the main page a few days ago, etc., so please check out the WSWL too. But right now, two more that aren’t on that list – one of which involves a yard sale:

YARD SALE: Grazing CL for West Seattle references, we came across an yard-sale listing that said, “Garage sale to go to Uganda!” We e-mailed the blind box to ask for more information. Nikki wrote back:

… my non-profit in Auburn, called Trillium (which helps businesses hire people with disabilities all over King and Pierce County) is helping to send me to Uganda with two other co-workers to visit some schools and orphanages there and work in a village called Maundo. I’m trying to come up with the portion of money I need to provide Trillium with to go on the trip by selling my slightly used furniture, clothing and dishes, etc. Also, I will have a donation jar at the garage sale for people who would like to donate directly to kids in Uganda, as I will be buying school supplies to take with me with the money I generate that way.

Nikki’s sale is both days this weekend at 7123 California SW (map), no specific hours listed.

LEMONADE STAND: The local agency SeekingSitters is sponsoring three Alex’s Lemonade Stand fundraisers around the city tomorrow, including one at Alki, noon-4 pm, to raise money to help kids with cancer; if you’re not familiar with the Alex’s Lemonade Stand story, you’ll find it here.
