If you’ve noticed activity at the Junction Plaza Park site (42nd/Alaska), here’s what’s up – plus a question you might be able to answer:

Thanks to Ron for the first tip yesterday that the Parks Department was doing some work on this long-fallow site (as we have mentioned previously, additional money is needed for full park development, and the Junction Association among others is involved in discussions).

Parks Department spokesperson Dewey Potter tells WSB that crews are putting in a “simple irrigation system, and once that’s done, will rototill and seed the park site.

But we also got e-mail today from Cari, who has been keeping an unofficial eye on the site and is worried about something that apparently has been stored there awaiting further park construction: Tiles made by kids. She is trying to find out what is supposed to happen to them while this work at the park is under way; we’ve also been trying to look up some background on the tiles themselves, and are waiting to hear back from Parks (obviously not before tomorrow) — if you know anything about their original creation, which predated our hyperfocus on West Seattle news, let us know. The official city page for the park project is here, but notes from the public meetings a couple years ago don’t mention them.
