As reported in recent weeks, both Roxhill Elementary and Schmitz Park Elementary lost their principals. The district has just announced who’s replacing them:

From the official Seattle Public Schools news release (which also announced a new principal for Wedgwood Elementary in the north end, so we’re not running the entire release):

Roxhill Elementary School

Carmela Dellino is the new principal of Roxhill Elementary School. Dellino has more than 20 years of experience as an educator and administrator. Prior to coming to Seattle Public Schools, she served as Assistant Principal at Shorewood High School in the Shoreline School District. In 2003, Dellino received the prestigious Teacher of the Year award from the Shoreline School District. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Italian Language and Literature from the University of Washington, and a master’s in School Counseling and Guidance from the University of Washington, and a P-12 Residency Principal Certification from Western Washington University. Dellino replaces Principal Cathy Thompson, who has been appointed as Assistant Director of Seattle Public Schools’ Curriculum and Instruction Department.

Schmitz Park Elementary School

Gerrit Kischner has been appointed principal of Schmitz Park Elementary School. Kischner’s 12-year teaching career, teaching social studies and language arts, took him from Brazil to middle schools in Philadelphia and suburban Boston, to the International School Manila, and the Lake Washington School District. He has served as Assistant Principal at TOPS K-8 school since 2004. Kischner received his Bachelor of Arts from Swarthmore College, a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Washington. In addition, he is a graduate of the University of Washington’s Danforth Educational Leadership Program. Kischner replaces Principal Rich Mellish, who has accepted a position in a neighboring school district.
