Reader report: Water balloon hits car on Fairmount

Just in from Molly, who’s also of course alerting police:

Just a few minutes ago (4:14 to be exact) I was driving up Fairmount Avenue from the beach when my windshield was hit by a water balloon. It wasn’t from the bridge above as I was more south than that. Just wanted to let you know…

And this sort of thing isn’t exactly harmless child’s play, as noted in a similar report we published two months ago.

    This is news?

Throwing stuff at cars = dangerous to people in cars.

  • CandrewB June 16, 2008 (5:32 pm)

True, but myself and everyone else I have ever known has done stupid stuff like that before 10 years of age. At least they were not throwing rocks.

I am the one that reported the waterballooning and just now re-read the comment from two months ago. The balloon that hit my windshield was also black. Coincidence?

Seriously, throwing ANYTHING at a car can be dangerous. Here are some from the water-balloon archives.

And from the archives of potential consequences for the pranksters, even worse:

If you want to pull a prank, stay home and rick-roll somebody.

and who said it was someone under 10 years of age? School gets out tomorrow, and the sun is shining, and what? boys/girls will be boys/girls?…and frankly, I wouldn’t doubt that this might be a teenager. And, frankly, they all should know better. So, Molly loses control and runs into a tree and injures herself, or perhaps a child in the car? This is just a prank? I don’t think so…Bob…I have a feeling a lot of people will disagree with you on this one…CandrewB, too…

WSB, I completely agree with you. Here’s a video I found about just how dangerous it can be to throw water balloons at cars:

i wonder how much mischief will be reported now that school is almost out…e.g. WSHS break-in.

  • Rick June 16, 2008 (10:47 pm)

Actions = consequences. Anyone here up for that?

  • WSB June 16, 2008 (10:48 pm)

Sigh, the Junior Member of the Team still thinks the whole rickrolling concept is funny so I have heard fragments of that song more times in the past few months than during its time on the charts back in the day.

Dangitall!, my good name tarnished again!

  • FlyintheOintment June 17, 2008 (7:40 am)

It was my understanding that driving a motor vehicle was inherently dangerous in the first place.

  • barmargia June 17, 2008 (5:17 pm)

how about all the people saying that it’s no big deal to have something thrown at your car drive down the street and have stuff thrown at your car, or thrown at you when you are on a motorcycle or bicycle, will it still be okay with you?

  • Mac June 17, 2008 (6:53 pm)

@barmargia It should be pointed out that a car is incapable of falling over, so the analogy isn’t exactly apt. Hit the brakes, get a little wet, towel out the car when you get home, and make sure those Kids These Days stay off your lawn.

  • barmargia June 17, 2008 (7:29 pm)

Mac, you are right all the stuff I pay for should totally be vandalized by your little darlings. If I have a home all the neighbor kids should play in my yard, and fine a water balloon is just a water balloon, but what happens when one of your precious little offspring puts paint in it, or rocks in it, doesn’t it stop being a water balloon? I bet you were okay with the kids on Admiral throwing rocks because well they are just rocks and a car can’t fall over. And if some kid or adult throws anything at me when I’m in my car or when I’m on my motorcycle (even if it’s just a water balloon) I’ll make sure to put a big post to you about.

Sorry, comment time is over.
