One Alki afternoon: Enraptured by a raptor

Thanks to David Hutchinson for sharing that photo of a bald eagle he and his wife saw in the “tall tree” near 61st/Alki on Friday afternoon, not far from the Statue of Liberty (now wouldn’t THAT be a photo op someday, if an eagle ever alighted ON the statue …).

What an incredible creature. It’s so cool to have animals like this one living right here among us humans.

While sitting on bench near MM waiting for the bus on Saturday, between rai…I mean snow showers, I saw an Eagle (this one?) sailing the thermals…It was so odd, sitting near the flow of traffic, watching a magnificent (B. Franklin’s opinions aside) bird just calmly being what it is. Meanwhile us ants scurry beneath it, intent on what is so important. Great Pix, too.

    Beautiful, David.
Was he/she in the tall tree across from Cactus restaurant?
I can see that tree from my front window and almost always there’s one or sometimes two Eagles, Romero and Juliet, there in the upper branches. I get a thrill everytime.
    Thanks for sharing.

    Jo,
    .
The tree was the one across from the Alki Bakery, the first tree west of the Alki Statue of Liberty. We first saw it flying past 59th being harassed by a group of gulls.

    Thanks for your kind comment.

The eagle looks like he is up to something, see how he is slightly smiling! Or maybe he’s just taking the a break to enjoy the beautiful gusty day! Great picture!

He/she is a magnificant creature. I see one almost once a week while waiting for my bus on Beach Dr and each time it’s a thrill.

Sorry, comment time is over.
