From tonight’s West Seattle Second Thursday Art Walk

That’s watercolor artist Chris Kopet, one of four artists (with Nancy Bogni, Graham Fracha, and Inge Roberts) who have just opened “Fragmented Moments” at ArtsWest, where their reception happened during tonight’s Art Walk. You can see their work during regular gallery hours through February 9th. Below, paintings by Sarah Browning, whose work you can see at C and P Coffee all month long:

Art Walks seem like a great idea. I’m all for art and artists having the opportunity to get their art in front of the public. But I’m wondering how successful the West Seattle Art Walk has been? Is attendance good? Is it increasing each month? I’ve walked by certain stops on the walk and things seemed pretty dead.

I used to enjoy attending the monthly art walks in Ballard. There were huge crowds, fairly decent art, and (I’ll admit this was part of the draw) lots of free food and wine/beer. But the Ballard Art Walk has really faded of late (not sure if it’s still even monthly).

I work in Georgetown, which I assume has just as many artists if not more than West Seattle (they can actually afford to live/rent studios here). Georgetown was having winter and summer art walks (with great attendance), but now due to a grant will start having them monthly.

I’m just curious if the West Seattle art walks are made possible by a grant and if people think they’re viable as a monthly event? I do hope they’re able to continue and would like to attend sometime once the weather improves. Thanks!

I will take the deafening silence as a sign that not many readers of the WSB attend the Art Walk. Or if they do, they don’t feel strongly about it one way or the other.

Hey, we should have chimed in. Don’t know about the grant thing; do know that some of the Junction businessfolks have worked hard to put this together and keep it going. Seems like every Art Walk night for the past few months has been “graced” by bad weather, but we’ve seen some decent turnouts – especially when participants couple it with an event, such as the opening reception for ArtsWest’s new show that was held in connection with last week’s Art Walk (the WSB delegation that went said there was a good crowd there) and the Twilight Art Collective opening party the month before (as we wrote at the time, that place was jamming). There are a few of the venues that are a little challenged with foot traffic – Ginomai is a bit off the beaten path but well worth the stop; we have had interesting conversations with artists there every time we have stopped in during the AW.

Wow, I have been wondering about the West Seattle art walk. I wanted to get the office on the list, because I have some Gary Faigin paintings on loan. http://www.garyfaigin.com

I wonder when the West Seattle artwalk will take off…
