West Seattle weather watch: Snow expected tomorrow

The National Weather Service has a Snow Advisory up for the whole metro area; the latest “forecast discussion” (which will be updated in a few hours) suggests the snow’s likely to arrive in our area between 7 and 9 am, but shouldn’t get really intense till afternoon.

Have there been any sightings of Parka Guy Danger Jim interviewing frightened citizens as they rush to the store to stock up on milk, beer and firewood ?

He was live at 5 pm from somewhere snowy. Having watched him for more than a decade from two competing newsrooms, I have to say he’s mellowed with age. The “Danger Jim” days were the mid-’90s, most notably the year of the worst Chelan wildfires, when he always seemed to be barely steps ahead of the wall of flames – TR

I saw him live on the 11pm news last night from North Bend…he looked pretty calm to me ;-)

I don’t understand the fascination with this guy? am I missing something?

Wouldn’t it be cool to have our own (meaning West Seattle / West Seattle Blog) Adventure Reporter??? Someone with a love of inclement weather, a knack for hyperbolic storytelling, and a really cool parka. Auditions could start tomorrow during the “snowstorm.” :-)

ace..it’s just our sense of humor….it all comes from a little skit that they did on Almost Live years ago..

    acemotel,

I think it’s because, a few years ago, more than now, Jim Foreman was the reporter that KING 5 would always send out to report in the inclement weather stories. And, since so many of the weather events take place during the Fall and Winter, he’d usually be sporting his bright blue KING 5 parka.

I think that one could almost bet, if a meteor were to hit our area, spewing it’s deadly radiation, Danger Jim/Parka Boy would be standing right there, dutifully reporting the details! :p

My husband would love to be the “danger” weather-guy. And he got a hideous vest for X-mas from his relatives that he could wear for his broadcasts.

lol…Steph, does he know that you’re volunteering him?

  • Mags December 26, 2007 (9:35 pm)

And let’s not forget his rivetting reporting of WTO..

  • WSB December 26, 2007 (9:47 pm)

Steph – tell him we’ll be over with the video camera if things get really bad! Actually if we were really ambitious, that would be a fun way to cover snow that wasn’t really causing a lot of trouble … hmm …

Remember ‘Windstrom 2000″?? Danger Jim on top of the Space Needle…It was great :)

Can’t say Almost Live was the funniest show and it did suffer from skits that ran too long but here is the origin of Parka Boy

I think I saw Danger Jim covering breaking news once over two five year olds threatening each other with bodily harm (wedgies or noogies) over who got to pour salt on the slug they found on the side walk. Riveting!

I have the dubious distinction of looking a lot like Danger Jim Foreman. If you’re looking for a bad weather reporter, I’m your man.

Rick, I hope you don’t mean (another reference to Almost Live) Sluggie!!
