Three unusual late-night notes

LOST A TIRE ON THE BRIDGE? Somebody in a red truck did, and Lee‘s got it. E-mail us if it’s yours.

PIRATE RADIO: Didn’t realize West Seattle had a “pirate radio” station (and no, we don’t mean Seafair Pirates), but apparently it does and its operators reportedly intend to broadcast the Federal Communications Commission media-ownership hearing that’s happening downtown tomorrow afternoon & evening. More if/when we hear them hit the air.

CAN YOU HELP THIS MOVIEMAKER? Or — do you want to be in a commercial? For more on both questions, check out the note Chris Hill sent us:

I’m an avid reader and West Seattle resident. We have such a warm and friendly community here on our side of the water and I thought maybe someone out there could help me.

I’m a student at Seattle Central Community College’s award winning Film & Video Program. My production team of four others and I are in the pre-production process of shooting a short film based on the blues classic, “Black Coffee” famously sang by Peggy Lee, k.d. lang and others.

Our inspiration comes from Edward Hoppers famous painting “Nighthawks”, and we see a lonely diner waitress working the graveyard shift, serving her equally lonely patrons. She’s daydreaming about the man she lost, or perhaps the man she desires but doesn’t have, looking desperately into the night to see if he arrives.

Our difficulty, and my reason for writing, has been securing a location for our film. Ideally, we would would like to see this set in a counter-diner setting keeping in the spirit of Hopper’s painting. If there is someone in West Seattle-land who is an owner or manager of a diner or similar kind of cafe/restaurant who would be willing to donate some time and the use of their space (after hours so as not to interfere with your business of course) for five hard-working film students, we would be eternally grateful and you’d have the chance to see your place on the big screen at our graduation showcase in Spring of 2009. Who knows? One of us may turn out to be the next Steven Spielberg, or Woody Allen!

If you are someone who can help us, or know someone who can help us, please feel free to contact me and let me know. I can be reached via e-mail at c.l.hill@hotmail.com.

Additionally, we are casting for roles both in this music short as well as a mobile phone commercial shooting sooner. Men and women ages 25-40. If you are interested, we are holding auditions at the Seattle Central Community College campus, Siegal Building, 1500 Harvard (that’s the corner of Harvard & Pike) on Friday the 9th from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Tuesday 13th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Because this is a student production (with an extremely limited budget) roles are unpaid. However, we will provide lunch, a little something for your resume and a copy of the finished production if you desire.

I know there’s got to be someone in our great community who can be of help.

I actually discovered that pirate radio station by accident, I had an FM transmitter for listening to my iPod in the car, and so had my radio tuned to what I thought was a dead channel so I could use it with little interference, and I was driving around and suddenly other music came over the speakers. This is the first time I’ve ever heard anything else about it, though.

Any other info on the pirate radio station? like what band it’s on?

They gave us a frequency but we’re going to wait to see if they do indeed come on this afternoon before posting it. It belongs to someone else, but guess that’s the point of “pirate radio.”

We have someone checking shortly to see if they’re up, but now that it’s past the time they said they would start broadcasting “warmup music” check 93.7.

Sorry, comment time is over.
