Beach biz buzz

Buzz on Alki (reader tip — THANK YOU!) is that the last open space in the ex-Alki Market (easternmost space of the building where Cactus and All the Best Pet Care now hold court) is going to some type of food store. Haven’t found the business’s name yet. The city construction-permit application is to “alter and change use of east tenant space … to restaurant/deli in existing retail/restaurant/apartment building.”

That part, of what used to be the store, was the deli. So they probably don’t have to do too much work.

None of the existing fixtures, coolers, etc. are left from the Alki Market Deli. It’s just a blank space. So they’ll be starting from scratch. And the Alki Deli was configured funny – didn’t make good use of space. The prep/cooking area was huge and the counter/display area very limited.
I’m hoping that someone saw that there was a need for a takeout deli here and decided to open one. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of deli and restaurant.

Part deli/ part convenience store would be great. The departure of the Alki Market impacted the local community immeasurably. Hopefully someone will hear our need for quality convenience foods and items w/o having to drive up to Admiral.

“alter and change use of east tenant space … to restaurant/deli in existing retail/restaurant/apartment building.”
It didn’t say anything about retail, so probably not a convenience store.

Sorry, comment time is over.
