Scenes from a heat wave, morning edition

8:20 am, 70-plus degrees. Workers at Westwood Village Target are joking about someone interviewed on tv last night about how fast fans and air conditioning units are selling. They seem more impressed by how fast the interview went – five minutes distilled into five seconds.

At the front counter, a clerk is ringing up the first fan sale of the day. Out in the parking lot, closer to WaMu, a work crew is kicking up a dirt devil. And over Barton Street, looking east, the sun looks like 8 am Vegas more than 8 am Seattle:

As a Seattle native who is currently working in Las Vegas, “quit whining’! It has been over 110 for 10 days in a row and it is hot and very oppresive, that and the pool at my temporary lodging is “under repair”. Try 110 with 3% humidity and see how you like that. I’ll be back for the weekend and look forward to being cold, no matter what the temp is.

Anyone else notice that the ubiquitous westwood-area motorhome is in this picture? It’s in nearly every picture taken in the WV area, no matter which street. What gives?

jdp, I would assume most of the people in Vegas have air conditioning in their homes? While I’m lucky enough to have it, that’s not the case with a majority of people in the Seattle area. Temps in the 90s with no a/c is certainly whine-worthy.

I grew up in AZ, and spent many weeks out in the desert with day time highs starting around 115 and higher. The 90s are a nice spring day. Drink plenty of water, stay out of the direct sun and get over it.

That motor home is in the “for sale” line of cars. I thinkit has a for sale sign on it – altho when I walked my dog past there the other day, the hood was open as if signaling “don’t tow me, Ia m waiting for a jump”.

Sorry, comment time is over.
