ANOTHER Junction bakery?

According to a construction permit just issued for the former Bobby’s Hobbies (across from Pagliacci/Clementine), a bakery is taking over the site. The permit lists only a fancy architect as “applicant.” Seems like The Junction is already bakery-laden enough that perhaps a flour wholesaler should be moving in next.

How about a gym in the Junction for all the fatso’s intead.

  • EM January 25, 2007 (9:53 pm)

Better a “fancy architect” and a sloppy one

I miss the people out racing cars around that track of Bobby’s Hobbies. It looked fun.

I’d love a gym here in the north part of WS, too.

I don’t get the whole cupcake phenom. Although I’m biased towards Coffee to a Tea because the folks there are so nice (especially the owner), I don’t get paying $3 for a cupcake that doesn’t taste that good. I can head to QFC and pick up a 6 pack for $3 and it tastes better. No, I’m not a fatass….having a 3 yr old gives you the opportunity to taste test.

There WAS a gym, urban fitness, on the corner of alaska and cali. The lady that ran it was real nice. Too bad she had to close up. More patrons of the bakeries than the gyms, I guess.

I’m not sure if Gold’s Gym is still upstairs from Matador. I think that it was replaced by 8 limbs yoga.

  • Jiggers January 26, 2007 (4:06 am)

Hey, if Petco leaves, a nice gym should take its place. That would be a sweet spot and a lot of room.

  • Jiggers January 26, 2007 (4:09 am)

i hear Urban fitness had to close because they didn’t pay taxes or something to that extent(I don’t know really, rumored).

You are so funny Jiggers “How about a gym in the Junction for all the fatso’s intead.” LOL

  • Keith January 26, 2007 (9:56 am)

Maybe it’s gonna be a pizza bakery!

Bobby’s Hobbies was so cool and unique, it was fun watching the action out there on the track. WS needs a skatepark, badly.

Also: there’s a liquor license application up in the space next to the fish market.

  • Gina January 26, 2007 (11:16 am)

One would be amazed at how many businesses in the Junction close because they forget to set aside money for state and federal taxes. Once the garnishing of income begins they can’t catch up.

And it isn’t just first time business owners!
As a Junction landlord it is amazing what goes on behind the scenes.

  • Jiggers January 26, 2007 (1:18 pm)

    Greetings House:
The cupcake phenom is mostly start-ups by woman. You’re an idiot if you buy a $3 plus cupcake. No wonder why there are more fat than skinny people in West Seattle.

  • Administrator January 26, 2007 (2:57 pm)

we reported a while back on the place next to the fish market … it’s supposedly going to be called “Spring Hill.”

  • Sue January 26, 2007 (3:49 pm)

Jiggers, what’s with all the insensitive comments about fat people? Not really cool.

  • Jiggers January 26, 2007 (5:54 pm)

Aweee the truth hurts don’t it?

  • Jan S. January 26, 2007 (7:52 pm)

my personal feelings about some of the comments posted here are…they’re rude, inappropriate for the site, and if you do have a personal comment for someone , send it to them personally. Jiggers? look in the mirror…perfection will allow you to make comments about your neighbors…anything less than that, take a hint , and keep it quiet. This is a great site…don’t spoil it…

(Sorry, Tim, I should take my own advise, I know – hehe)

  • Gina January 26, 2007 (8:35 pm)

    What is an “intead”?

  • The House January 26, 2007 (11:40 pm)

Jan S., you’re half right and half wrong. This is a great site, but part of what makes it a great site is that the Blogger allows us to speak our minds. There are some pretty regular visitors and they all have their schtick. I’m not offended by Jiggers comments because I don’t buy $3 cupcakes and I’m not fat. Perhaps you are fat and pay $3 for cupcakes? I don’t know. Jiggers….do your thing.

  • Administrator January 27, 2007 (12:10 am)

Actually your blog hosting team here includes two persons of size in the family and we are on the verge of creating a policy where criticizing people for their physical attributes (such as race or body size) is not allowed (as well as certain swear words which we already edit out of comments). We pay the bucks to host this party, and much as we like to have it be a free-wheeling party, there is a spot at which we draw the line. If Mr. or Ms. Jiggers is truly prejudiced against people of size, he or she probably would be best served opening his/her own blog with no people of size allowed.

  • Jiggers January 27, 2007 (7:47 am)

This an internet forum only. Sticks and stones may break mt bones but…..

  • MsF January 27, 2007 (9:38 am)

I personally would hate to see this forum denigrate to an AOL-style chat room, populated by 15 year olds (or those with a 15 year old mentality). Name calling really doesn’t seem appropriate for this forum. There are plenty of other boards for that.

  • MsF January 27, 2007 (10:05 am)

I meant to say “degenerate into..” above (not denigrate to..). I must not post before morning coffee.

  • Jan S. January 27, 2007 (11:34 am)

well, I can honestly say that I have never bought a cupcake in the Junction, nor do I frequent on a regular basis the bakeries that have been discussed. Am I not a skinny chick? right about that..but I suppose one has to walk in my shoes first – cancer drugs, etc. That having been said…it truly doesn’t matter in the realm of things important in the world. I just feel we all need to be nicer to other people in the world in general. We do speak our minds here, Mr. House…about the topic at hand, whether it’s an ordinance, or in this case, whether we need another bakery as a business in our already overloaded with bakeries business district. I, too, agree that if I “need” a cupcake, I can make one for pennies. So…there we are ..

  • Jiggers January 27, 2007 (2:26 pm)

    Bwahahahahaha…MaF

  • The House January 27, 2007 (3:32 pm)

Defenition of tolerance – a fair, objective, and permissive attitude toward opinions and practices that differ from one’s own.

May I remind you that being offended and not allowing an individual to speak their mind is the antithesis of tolerance. Whether you feel that individuals comments are rude, bias, prejudice, or wrong doesn’t matter if you’re truly tolerant. I know this pains all of the so called “tolerance preachers” out there, but it’s true. Think about it and eat another cupcake!

  • Administrator January 27, 2007 (3:48 pm)

Whatever your definition of tolerance, that’s nice, but we will not tolerate insults here based on physical characteristics (size, race, etc.), gender, age, religion, sexual orientation, and probably some other things that aren’t quite top of mind at the moment. And yes, “fatso” is an insult. We’ve got enough vulgarity and mean-spiritedness in the world, this isn’t going to be just one more place people can find it.

  • Jo January 27, 2007 (5:25 pm)

I totally agree with you, Administrator. One thing I have liked about this blog is that people generally do not ‘attack’ or have a tendency to be mean-spirited, rude, etc. The people hosting this blog go out of their way to thoroughly research subjects and pass along links so we can follow up if we chose. I hope that doesn’t change. I notice that there’s just a couple of people who resort to ridiculing others and ‘name-calling.’ Not nice!

  • Jiggers January 27, 2007 (6:44 pm)

I like this blog so I’ll try not to step out of bounds. But I love to speak my mind no doubt. I’ve been living in W.S for 12 years now. I don’t like to sugar coat my words or the way I feel. Its not good for you to keep it bottled up.

  • The House January 27, 2007 (8:40 pm)

Blogger, that wasn’t my defenition. It was Webster’s. I’ve always tried to “play by the rules”. You know I always thank you for the work that you do (It ain’t easy doing what you’re doing) and appreciate this site.

Rather than shake hands, how about if we all meet down at Coffee To A Tea and down a few cupcakes? :)

  • Jiggers January 28, 2007 (12:28 pm)

    Delete,delete,delete….

  • Nyana February 28, 2007 (11:11 pm)

Come on you guys. This is not going to be “just another bakery.” This is going to be a pie (sweet and savory) bakery. And for all you guys who want a gym, there is one above the Jak’s Grill or maybe you can walk the 3 blocks down to the YMCA. Heaven forbid you drive to the gym to exercise.

Sorry, comment time is over.
