Adults only?

A WSB reader just left a comment here saying the new Junction joint Talarico’s is 21-and-up only. If that’s indeed so, it’s unfortunate. I believe that’s also the case with Matador — at least as far as I could tell from one walk-by. West 5 manages to have a vibrant bar and all-ages restaurant co-exist in close quarters; why lock out families unless you’re truly doing something adults-only in your place, such as, oh, say, stripping? A lot of kids I know are better diners than a fair amount of immature adults. I’ve got nothing against 21-and-over taverns, but if you’re going to bill yourself as a restaurant, it doesn’t make sense to me to shut out the kids. Seattle already has a pathetically low percentage of households with kids — and this won’t help. (rant off)

I’m a huge fan of 21+ places and will fully give my support to any establishment that doesn’t allow the under 21 crowd. This is a hip place that allows for socializing and hook ups and the last thing anyone needs is kids running around.

…there are plenty of family friendly places in W. Seattle and I think it’s great that the new place is 21+…

West 5 may be family friendly but last time I was there they didn’t have highchairs available….and not because they were all in use. They just didn’t have any. I’d be curious to know if that has changed since it certainly put a damper on us bringing our little one. When looking for family dining in the junction we typically hit maharaja.
As far as Talarico’s is concerned….21+ or not I found the food to be underwhelming. The kiddos aren’t missing out on much.

I agree with the first two posts. There’s nothing going on here, like stripping, that is “adults-only,” but the customers they want to attract are not the kind of people who want to deal with kids nearby. Adults tend to drink and eat and swear and flirt and whatever and little kids do not need to be exposed to that kind of environment.

There may be some kids who are better behaved than adults, but let’s be real, most parents these days have no clue how to raise a child in society. They let those little brats run all over restaurants, movie theaters, and stores. No discipline ever. It’s so very annoying. Strap them in and tell them to be quiet and I have no problems. My gosh, I am getting off topic.

But even if it’s a 21+ establishment, I always thought children could still dine if accompanied by a legal guardian.

Sorry, comment time is over.
