WEST SEATTLE RESTAURANTS: 1 closing, 1 reopening

Two restaurant notes:

CHACO CANYON ORGANIC CAFE: The vegan restaurant at 3770 SW Alaska in The Triangle says it’s shutting down “until further notice” after Sunday. They’re inviting fans to come say goodbye before then; their announcement says, “We’re extremely proud of how many tasty recipes we tried and how many amazing customers we took care of; however, we are beyond sad that this chapter is over.” They’ll be open 10 am-5 pm daily through Saturday, 10 am-3 pm on Sunday.

BE’S RESTAURANT: The longtime Junction eatery (4509 California SW) has reopened, 8 am-2 pm daily, with a “limited menu that consists of breakfast food, burgers, and Vietnamese lunch options.” Plus: “Brunch cocktails from The Alley” (which is next door). Reservations are available by phone, 206-937-1110, or email, beskitchen1986@gmail.com.

Oh no! Chaco Canyon! One of my favorite West Seattle restaurants. This is really sad.

      Agreed. I’m so sad, too!!

I’m so sad that Chaco Canyon is closing! Their food is delicious and the employees always so helpful and kind. –We’ll miss you!!!

Any word on Azuma or the wonderful owners?  They worked their tails off to develop Azuma (as do all small business owners) and I wish them well.

Besides going by to check, I’ve tried contacting them … no reply. A couple restaurants (also the Fish House on 35th) remain mysteries…

I love Chaco Canyon and will be sorry to see our only veg restaurant go away.  However, the prices are ridiculous; my favorite, the lentil burger, is $16.  I don’t know how many people can afford that on a regular basis, but I certainly can’t.

Datapoint, it is no longer the lone vegan restaurant – Box Bar at California/Brandon is all “plant-based.”

      • Sue H August 27, 2020 (12:06 am)

HeartBeet Cafe in Morgan Junction is also vegan.

box bar on california is all veggie / vegan and WAY better than chaco .. AND cost less.http://boxbarseattle.com/

Box Bar is more like a bar with vegetarian food (21+), not really a “restaurant.”  we will miss Chaco Canyon. 😞

is there any news on when Azuma Sushi might be reopening?

    • ACG August 26, 2020 (3:49 pm)

+1 on this. We love Harry and Jennifer. We also love Mashiko’s too, and have been doing take out there. But, I miss sitting at the sushi bar at Azuma and talking to Harry.

I really enjoy the simplistic menu at Be’s.  Glad they’re b back.

There’s also HeartBeet Cafe on California Ave by Paperboat Booksellers.  That, and Box Bar are fantastic, even if you’re not vegan.

I usually dislike vegan, but Chaco Canyon always had the best food, including some of the best cookies I’ve ever tasted.  Major bummer – I hope their other locations survive this thing.

I tried Caco Canyon about three times.  Really enjoyed the food and experience.  I just couldn’t afford to make it a regular.  Glad to hear some restaurants are opening.

We tried Chaco Segal times and liked it; never loved it. The new ownership changed things and we never went back.  Still,  I hate to see businesses close.

I felt the same way!  The ambiance changed, prices increased, and it never felt the same.  Heartbeet is yummy!  I need to try box bar!

I loved Chaco Canyon and I used to eat there all the time. Unfortunately when the bus lanes went in on Alaska and they lost so much parking, on top of all the apartments going in and taking up all the parking, it made it difficult to park anywhere reasonably close to there. That’s when I stopped going a lot less.

Bee’s yea!!! West Seattle at its best

  • anonyme August 27, 2020 (7:23 am)

Thanks for the updates on veg/vegan options.  Hopefully one of them will copy Chaco’s awesome lentil burger!

Sorry, comment time is over.
