I went to take my kiddos to the new Genesee school this weekend to play on the playground and let my oldest ride his bike but every gate was locked!? They were all open last weekend and we saw quite a few people coming and going with their kids.. doing the same thing. So I’m just curious… Can the public use the school playground during non school hours?? I’ve never had a problem at any other and we use to visit Schmitz park to do the same thing. It would also help make my older son more comfortable with the surroundings since he will most likely start there next year. Not to mention all of us paying our property taxes, etc. for this new school.

Lafayette locks the access gates for the 44th Ave right of way now, but leaves the 45th Ave gate with stairway access open evenings and weekends. No ADA access to public property. I hope the lock off access to playground Seattle Public school policy doesn’t happen to Alki school.
Having two gates locked at Lafayette has made it into an off leash dog park, with only one gate left to close.
