Anyone going? I\'m probably gonna get there early-ish on Friday since I have to go away for the weekend and took Friday off. Is it dog friendly?

i am going on Saturday! I cant wait ... i am meeting friends! Not sure if it is dog-friendly, but I believe last year their were a few dogs around (not sure if people got into trouble for it) because I remember wishing I would have brought mine along...
Posted 3 years ago # -
i think if your dog likes people, there are sooo many people!!! the pet stores give out lots of dog stuff, but i remember last year it was sooo hot!!!!
Posted 3 years ago # -
and, of course, elgrego, said dog is on a short leash :)
Posted 3 years ago # -
We\'re going for the Mariachi on Sunday!
Posted 3 years ago # -
Nope not going. I\'m boycotting this years summerfest.
Posted 3 years ago # -
Anyone who IS going, please stop by and say hi if you are so inclined .. At least one of us will be on site at all times, based at the official Information (of course!) Booth, which apparently will be right at the heart of things at California/Alaska ... TR
p.s. occurs to me that we should know the answer to the OP\'s question if we\'re gonna be in the info booth ... it does appear to be pet-friendly ... note the \"Animal Education\" feature mentioned on this page from the Summer Fest website:

TR....all the times I\'ve been, there have always been a myriad of dogs there, so suppose it\'s OK. I just hope that people keep them on a short leash. If the weather is nice, it gets crowded, and long leashes have a tendency to get tangled up in legs (the human ones)...

Lots of the businesses actually put out water bowls for the dogs. Believe me, there are tons of them, everything from pit bulls to pomeranians..I have seen much sniffing and a little growling! It is very dog friendly. (Just don\'t try and do the Sunday market and the street fair at the same time and you will be fine!
Posted 3 years ago # -
I\'ll be there. Please be advised that if you are walking a pug, I will launch a pet-attack (an attack of petting, that is). I love pugs.

as a lifelone West Seattleite, the street fair is a must do tradition that my family has. I see friends there I haven\'t seen since sometimes grade school or high school. I have a whole contingency of friends that I\'m going up with on Saturday afternoon and on into evening. The music and food and various beer gardens are so much fun and a great way to catch up with your neighbors.
p.s. the street fair is open to dogs which is wonderful, however I took my 2 big boys last year, and they were seriously so over stimulated by all the people, sites, and sounds, and smells (!) that it became to much for them and I took them home early. the place gets packed and it does get to be very hot.

Anyone have any band recommendations? I\'ll probably head up there for a bit each day. Also, just out of curiosity, do the bands have to reside in West Seattle in order to play the fest?
Posted 3 years ago # -
We\'ve always taken our dog to Summer Fest; and always on lead! She had a great time; but I\'m guessing she and other dogs might not be allowed in the beer gardens. Anyone have memory of dogs in the beer garden?

Villagereen - I\'d highly suggest Tullycraft at Easy Street on Friday night and The Special Places on Saturday at 3:30. Note: my boyfriend plays with both, so I\'m totally and completely biased. :) Sadly, I\'ll be out of town, so please clap extra loudly for me.
I\'d also recommend Carrie Akre, and if I was gonna be there I\'d be curious to check out Hockey, Mark Pickerel, Kirsten Ward, and The Lonely Forest.

Keith - I love Tullycraft (forgot they are playing)! Definitely will try to catch The Special Places on Sat. too. Thanks for the other picks as well - they all sound interesting.

i have been going to summerfest for over 10 years, and with all of the blogging going on about dogs. there are alot of unaltered dogs that go there mostly pits and i have seen fights start or about to start. again this is an owner responsiblity thing, my opinion if your dog isn\'t fixed you are not responsible. again my opinion!!!! don\'t bring it. not to mention it is terrbily hot. even saw someone leave there dog in the petco parking lot. it was 80 outside. needless to not much was done by animal control. but at least they came out. keep your dogs on a short leash not those damn retracable ones. people trip over them. put your dogs in a heal postion. again responsibilty.
Posted 3 years ago # -
No dogs in beer gardens? Seriously? I\'ll just go to BPP if that\'s the case.
Posted 3 years ago # -
keith - thank you SO much for mentioning Carrie Akre! I love, love, love her music and am definitely going to see her.
.
Also, I\'ll be at the West Seattle Food Bank\'s booth from 10-12 Saturday morning so come on by y\'all and buy a $5.00 raffle ticket to support the Food Bank and maybe win a couple of round-trip plane tickets!!!Posted 3 years ago # -
so is this thing crazy crowded?
Posted 3 years ago # -
Do they let dogs inside the BPP?
Posted 3 years ago # -
yes, they let dogs inside the BPP
Posted 3 years ago # -
ellenator..depends...depends on the day, and depends on the weather. Saturday will probably be the busiest day, Friday probably the least busy. The weather\'s supposed to be decent, so yes, it can get crowded. If you can, I say take the bus...parking will be at a premium, for sure.
Posted 3 years ago # -
I was in the BPP last night with a friends \'service dog\', sure are a lot of service dogs out there and all their owners love trivia too...good times.
Posted 3 years ago # -
Thanks, JanS.
We ended up at the Junction tonight and there was some bubbleman thing going on for kids. It was very sweet. My 8 year old loved it. reminds me of Eugene. Good times...

Is that the guy with the silverware trays that he spins around? Love him at the Solstice parade if it is the same guy.
Posted 3 years ago # -
I didn\'t see that. Are you maybe thinking of Artis the Spoonman? Sounds like something he would do. We didn\'t see Bubbleman from top to bottom, though.
Posted 3 years ago # -
I see on the main page that my private parking space will be occupied by frozen doughnuts. Fair trade off, I guess. Good to see north of Oregon getting more attention!
Posted 3 years ago # -
COFFIN BREAK!! OMG! Its been sooooo long since I have seen them.
Posted 3 years ago # -
Zenguy, according to this page, it\'s the same Bubbleman: http://www.bubbleman.com/events.html I wish I\'d known - I enjoy him every year at the Solstice parade.
Posted 3 years ago # -
We were there for bubbleman, too! We just stumbled upon it on a walk, so bonus. What a hoot. He talked a little much, but since I agreed with all of his politics I was ok with it. ;)
Posted 3 years ago # -
Chessa,
Ya the kiddies were just there for the bubbles. But you figure they\'re getting programmed the other way all the time so some reversals are in order. He reminded me a lot of Eugene.Posted 3 years ago # -
I just got back from touring the opening hours of Summerfest...
no music.. but most of the vendors were open and the crowds were definately manageable.
i saw kids, dogs, wheelchairs.. and a lot of tired happy people.
I did stop by WSB.. they are behind the computer at the Chamber of Commerce booth.. but only Patrick was in and he was busy helping hang the signs for the booth.
Hubby and i will likely do some cruising after the farmers market on sunday...
I had great fun..
Sadly.. no hot dog mess.. just the juice from two matador tacos on the bottom of my shirt and down my skirt... the taste was worth it.
i think i have to go over on first to get my hot dog... i just didn\'t see one that made my heart sing and since i only do one or two a year.. i want bang for my buck:)
Posted 3 years ago # -
Chessa..
they have a booth that will gladly show your children plastic representations of the fetus at various stages of development...
all the while explaining why it is wrong to kill babies.
i didn\'t see him juggle them though.
Posted 3 years ago # -
I also had Matador tacos for lunch. Very tasty! Jones Soda Co. was giving away cans of pop at their booth.
Posted 3 years ago # -
I\'m headed over there right from work - as long as I\'m on the bus from downtown I figured I\'ll just get off over there instead, wander about, have some dinner, then walk home. A perfect Friday night.

Sue..
have a great time. i did.Posted 3 years ago # -
Just a bump and a reminder to come visit me at the West Seattle Food Bank booth from 10-12 today (Saturday) and buy a raffle ticket to support our fabulous Food Bank!!! Well ok, visit the food bank booth at any time this weekend... :-)
Posted 3 years ago # -
Oh good, there\'s the photo op I was looking for at the Food Bank booth ... have mentioned the raffle tickets several times already but wanted to get the booth itself - will probably run by when Junior Member and I get there sometime after shooting the Ercolini Park ribboncutting at 10:30 (Patrick will be in \"our\" booth in the meantime; today we have to alternate because there are other things offsite to shoot) ... The Food Bank booth btw as I mentioned in a front page blurb is on the east side of the street in the block between Alaska and Edmunds .. TR

Ellenater- Nice! I saw the bubbleman yesterday, and I was a Duck and know Eugene well... I actually grew up in Santa Cruz, not sure if he reminded me more of Eugene or Santa Cruz, but I definitely know where you are coming from!
Personally, I was a bit frightened by the bubbleman and his car, but the kids seemed to love him, and if the parents don\'t care, why on earth should I?

spent the WHOLE day up at the fest today! it was great to roam around and say hi to everyone and hang out in the sunshine. nothing like drinking a manny\'s in the sun! best part of the day was getting a chance to meet the wsb folks and say a bit thanks for all they do! how cute is that boy???? stellar day all the way around!
Posted 3 years ago # -
We were there this afternoon and had a great time. We\'ll be back Sun morning. I didn\'t see a WSB booth or anyone? Where is it?
We had kind of a bad experience with a creepy possibly drunk or high man over by the food area who trying to talk to us about very inappropriate subjects. He had a very cute dog but provided no water for it and it kept getting lose from him. :(Posted 3 years ago # -
Enjoyed the Fest and donated at the food bank (I complained that my friend was donating with my money) a great day.
Posted 3 years ago # -
guidosmom, the WSB people are at the information booth right at Alaska/California - right in front of Super Supplements. It\'s a U-shaped booth, and they are on the part that is facing north. You\'ll see a laptop (or 2) open with \"westseattleblog.com\" on the lid, and you\'ll know you found them! I saw Patrick there a little while ago (didn\'t stop by since he was chatting with others and I already bugged them on Friday :)
Posted 3 years ago # -
Bummer, I must have walked right past and didn\'t notice. :( What a nice day it was today!
Posted 3 years ago # -
I think this was the nicest Summer Fest yet! Nice crowd, fun booths, good blowup rides for the little ones. Way to go West Seattle!!
Posted 3 years ago # -
