I just read the post under the Locksmith Arson and was sadden to hear that he did not have fire insurace just the basic insurance so his business is basically a loss. My first thought (like Elizabeth\'s) was that maybe we as a community should pull together with some sort of fundraiser. What are otehrs thoughts?

I think this is a great idea -- we already know what the community can do, from the great support for Angelia\'s family.
Posted 4 years ago # -
BDG - I just read about that too and was saddened for the business owner. I have stated before, I\'m no good at organizing, but I would definitely be interested in attending a fundraiser if one is put together. I would also be interested in helping put it together if someone were to take the lead. Let me know!
Posted 4 years ago # -
Hey, NR -- it\'s good to be on the same side again :-) I\'m sure an organizer-type will show up.
Posted 4 years ago # -
I just made a post under the main page to asking for ideas b/c there was definitley interest...we could kind of do what a few of us spoke about at the Belvridge Pub...where there would be a cover, and then maybe an addiional $1 tacked on to each drink or something like that...and take donations as well. Any other ideas?
Posted 4 years ago # -
I posted this in the comments section as well, and then saw this. A fundraiser might take come time to organize- what if we just set up a fund that people can directly donate to at a local bank branch??
Posted 4 years ago # -
some time..tired fingers..
Posted 4 years ago # -
that sounds good. do you just call a bank to do that or how does it work?
Posted 4 years ago # -
I haven\'t the slightest idea! I just see it on the news all the time. I am sure it would be easy to set up. I will call Wells Fargo and ask....
Posted 4 years ago # -
ok, I just spoke to Matt up at Wells Fargo- he is looking into setting up a donation fund. As soon as he calls back I will post here. Not that a fundraiser at the BPP doesn\'t sound great as well. I am glad we can come together as a community and help any way we can.
Posted 4 years ago # -
Thank you JenV....and who knows we can always do both :)
Posted 4 years ago # -
BDG and JenV was a fabulous group of proactive gals you are! It warms my heart to see people helping out this business in the midst of apparent random destruction, and it just goes to show that the WSB and its readers can make things happen! Way to go ladies! Oh, and I\'m in for whatever is decided upon in order to help out.
Posted 4 years ago # -
I agree Andrea, count me in for everything you just said!

We did a lemonade stand for Alex\'s Lemonade Stand last year and found that instead of telling people a set price per glass of lemonade that they can donate whatever they\'d like we collected a lot more money. For instance, instead of paying $1 they paid $2 or $5 each. Not that you\'d do a lemonade stand but if you just put a jar out for donations instead of tacking on a set price then you might collect more money. Just a though. (re: the drinks at the bar)

all right- I spoke to Matt at Wells Fargo. All you need to do is go to the junction branch and let them know you wish to set up a donation account for the business. You can then post the account info here so people will know where to make donations. If you already have an account at WF you would just call Matt at 206-932-5065 and if your info is on file there he can do it over the phone. I am unable to make it out of the office today, so if someone could take over from here that would be great!
Posted 4 years ago # -
I like it Bonnie...maybe we should try do it sometimes next week or the following wknd..sorry this weekend i am out b/c of Easter and all. let me know when might work.

The fundraiser for \"Mo\" at the Beveridge Place was a huge success. The basic run down of the set up was $10 entry donation got you a free drink and then we sold raffle tickets for prizes donated by local businesses. We also accepted general donations.
I think it would be a great idea to do both the bank donation fund and a local fundraiser! I will be checking back for more details and ideas.
Posted 4 years ago # -
While planning all these fundraising ideas it might not be a bad idea to keep our ears open for contractors that might be able to help re-build within of the physical work. i dont know any off the top of my head..but jsut some thought.
Posted 4 years ago # -
I can donate gift certificates (massage) for whatever raffle might ensue...would be my pleasure...
also wonder if there\'s some way we could get the surrounding businesses involved...it could have been any one of them...
Posted 4 years ago # -
I know I was thinking that we should definitely contact all local businesses. I can have a bunch of nice flyers printed for free askign for donations...not sure if you guys want me desiging them I kind of like in the creative area; but would be more than happy to print them off on some nice paper and get my feet on the street to distribute them.
Posted 4 years ago # -
BDG...great idea...
Posted 4 years ago # -
We could shoot for maybe the first SAturday in April- that would give us next week to distribute the flyers and ask for donations and also if we make flyers to post around W. SEattle will also give people time to plan accordingly.
Posted 4 years ago # -
You-all are amazing! I was waiting on hold for a talk show (didn\'t make it but did email them). I came back to all of this. Count us in for whatever.
Posted 4 years ago # -
We can check to see if the people in the apartments above were affected and, if they\'re in the same condition, do something for them as well. This \"group\" can do anything :-)
Posted 4 years ago # -
good thinking, Charla. I\'m sure even if the apartment is sound, they\'ve had smoke and water damage...
Posted 4 years ago # -
BDG, I can also help out in any of the planning, printing, distributing of any fliers with you. Just lemeno and I can be there...and something fot the 1st of April at BPP sounds great to me...should we contact them ASAP to see if this is possible? JenV I know you know you \'re there a bit, maybe you can see if they would mind holding another WSB forum event?!
Posted 4 years ago # -
What can i do?
i like the idea of a fundraiser at the BPP... especially since that is the first weekend of spring break and BPP is an adults only place:)
i like kids.. a lot.. and i like being around them.. just not so many so frantic as the first weekend of spring break.
Posted 4 years ago # -
I am out of town this weekend, so Andrea if you want to talk to the good folks at the BPP that would be much appreciated!
I am headed to the bank right now and will post donation account info...turns out I had to go to the bank after all today. :)
Posted 4 years ago # -
That would be great if you could contact BPP Andrea. I was thinking that if we did a silent acution or some sort with donations from local businesses (such as JanS!)and then had tip jars set up it woudl be great. Once we have the okay from BPP we can make some fliers and maybe meet up sometimes next week to start distributing/posting fliers and collecting donations. Thanks JenV!
Posted 4 years ago # -
Donation account has been set up at the junction branch of Wells Fargo under account # 5358011681. Donations can be made at any branch with that account #. If anyone knows the onwer, please have him contact Matt at Wells Fargo to get set up on the account. Or he can contact me at 206-715-3026.
Posted 4 years ago # -
OK, well I just left a message at BPP (they aren\'t open until 3pm and I\'m DT at work), and asked if they at all were interested in helping out the WSB forum members again in aiding a fellow WS neighbor get back on their feet, that being the locksmith. Once I hear back from them I will let you all know how we can proceed...crossing fingers!
Posted 4 years ago # -
I noted this in main page comments too but also want to say it here: I will be stopping by the scene for an update in a few hours (probably around 2:30) but have to go out on another story first. If I see him when I\'m down there, I will ask if anyone got in touch with him but if anyone is out and about in Morgan Junction it\'s probably your best chance to find him in person - he has glasses, green cap, dark hair. Good job again, guys - TR
Posted 4 years ago # -
Hey TR- if you still have connections with local media, can you alert them to the donation account so they can run it with the 5pm news? <please don\'t mention my name, just the name of the biz, account # etc> thx!
Posted 4 years ago # -
Thansk Andrea!
Posted 4 years ago # -
Just had a chat with a local West Seattle contractor and he\'s thinking about donating labor to help rebuild - hope to hear a positive offer soon. How about getting more Morgan Junction businesses involved - like a weekend promotion of Morgan Junction. Participating businesses donate a portion of the weekend business and we drum up donations from weekend shoppers.
Posted 4 years ago # -
Thank you so much Kathy! That is so great to hear!! And also just another graet idea.:)
Posted 4 years ago # -
soemoen shoud contact the local lumber store as well.. you might get doantions.. but a lot of the guys who work there are pretty generous and you might get offers of work.
if the owner wants it.. a work party like an old fashioned barn raising isn\'t outside the range of possibility.
i have t stop posting today.. i just had to correct barn burning to barn raising and that\'s the sort of glitch that spellcheck won\'t catch...

Might be interesting to get local artists to create works from debris: melted keys could make interesting stuff. Display and sell for the next Thursday Art Walk. Proceeds to business owner.
Posted 4 years ago # -
If the fundraiser were to involve some kind of silent auction, I\'d be happy to donate framed fine-art photographs to benefit the business owner. Whatever organizer that emerges may private message me at cjboffoli@gmail.com http://www.carsonchang.com
Posted 4 years ago # -
This is exactly why we all love West Seattle. There is a sense of community and kinship here that so many places lack.
Kathy, Great job on locating a possible contractor!
JoB, I think many people/businesses would be willing to pitch in to rebuild as well as donate supplies.I second the offer above (cjboffoli)- I\'m a photographer and designer and would also be willing to donate services or prints to an auction.
Posted 4 years ago # -
What an amazing community we live in! My husband and I own a constuction company here in West Seattle. We will happily donate the labor to rebuild. Perhaps someone can contact Home Depot or some other similar entity to donate the materials. We can be contacted at laurie@bluboxconstruction.com
Posted 4 years ago # -
I just have to echo the thought - We live in an amazing community - how fortunate we all are!
It simply brings tears to my eyes to see the outpouring of compassion and caring for this business owner.
I don\'t have time to participate in the planning, but I will definately make a donation and try to show up at any events that are planned.
Posted 4 years ago # -
Thank you so much LDK, I will put you on the list. Also thank you cjboffoli, and bayou, i will start to put a list together now and keep you posted on dates etc. It is so great to see our community come together.
Posted 4 years ago # -
can i say how very proud i am to be one of you....
see.. this community thing does work.
Posted 4 years ago # -
This project appeals to me and I\'m willing to take a lead on this or help beachdrivegirl. We need to set up a meeting date and talk to the owner. I might walk down there now. Can anyone get down there this afternoon?
Posted 4 years ago # -
kathy...I\'m at work DT so can\'t make it to speak with Mr. Dein, but would be willing and able to help you, beachdrivegirl, and anyone else this weekend or the next to get these fundraising efforts out there.
I\'m still waiting to hear back from BPP...hopefully they or another business owner (maybe reading this blog ?!?)will be open to us using their space for a findraising event...
Posted 4 years ago # -
We could try to get together next monday/tuesday @ 7 and start to game plan exactly what we want to do, when we want to do it, etc. I tried to call the shops number earlier thinking it might go to a cellphone or something but was unsuccessful and am @ work now so cant go by. I know I am going to go by Wells Fargo aslo this afternoon and have asked my boss about possibel Mariners ticket for an auction item. (Sounds promising!)
Posted 4 years ago # -
I\'m working from home today, so can stop by there now and get some contact information from the owner if possible. I\'m glad to see that we have a contractor committed to help if the owner needs a contractor. I\'m available to meet this weekend, but I know a lot of people have Easter plans that will keep them busy. I\'ll get back to you and let you know if I made contact.
Posted 4 years ago # -
you ALL amaze me! this is fantastic! i think a fundraiser would be a great way for the owner to see how much people care and to meet his community. all of you donating time, energy, labor, materials etc are to be commended! please keep us all aware of any dates for the fundraiser! this community will turn this horrible incident around!
Posted 4 years ago # -
BDG and Kathy I am already commited this Tuesday eve and this Sunday for Easter, but perhaps Monday or Wenesday eve we can get together?
