Caucus reports and results, frequently updated (add yours!)

7:10 PM, FINAL UNOFFICIAL 34TH DISTRICT DEMOCRATIC RESULTS: The 34th District Democrats’ site says: 70% Obama, 28% Clinton. State Democrat results are here; state Republican results are here. Coverage below shows all previous updates, oldest to newest.

ORIGINAL 3:13 PM REPORT: Just back from our caucus (at Denny Middle School). Topline on our precinct caucus: About 40 participants (more than twice what we had when caucusing with the same precinct four years ago); we started with a proportion of votes equal to 2 Obama delegates, 1 Clinton delegate, 1 undecided; ended with 3 Obama delegates (to the district convention) and 1 Clinton delegate. P.S. This photo just in from Tim, who caucused at Arbor Heights Elementary and says the lunch room was so packed they expanded to classrooms (same thing at Denny):

ADDED AT 4:19 PM: Thanks for the delegate results you’re posting comments. Keep ’em coming. Note the 34th DD results update link. Meantime, here’s another Arbor Heights Elementary photo, from Jeff:

ADDED 4:34 PM: Yes, there are Republicans in West Seattle. The line to get into the GOP caucuses at Southwest Community Center was literally down the stairs and out the door:

ADDED 4:43 PM: WSB contributing photojournalist Matt Durham sends these photos from Gatewood Elementary: First, State Sen. Joe McDermott during the pre-caucus sign-in:

You can figure out who Sarah Lehoch and Terrence Veccavo were supporting:

Here, Matt photographed 3-month-old Waverly Davis:

Copies of Matt’s WSB photos and his other work are available at his site, mattdurhamphotography.com. Meantime, we received another photo of a very young caucus attendee — this is Melissa‘s 4-month-old:

4:55 PM ADDITION: Lively citywide coverage at Slog, including Eli’s impassioned defense of the joyful messiness of the caucus process. For a sample of other news blogs around the area are reporting on caucuses, check the headline digest at Citizen Rain. More here as info and photos come in. So far, the results reports in the comments thread equal roughly 75% Obama, 25% Clinton. 5:05 PM ADDITION: The state Democratic Party has a results page ready, though it’s all 0’s so far. WA GOP promises results after 6 pm. 5:29 PM ADDITION: State D results are starting to come in: 66% Obama, 32% Clinton with 34% reporting. 5:48 PM ADDITION: The state also has a “jurisdiction-level results” page — scroll down to “King – 34th LD” for West Seattle (and Vashon). Doesn’t say if this is final but our district is listed at 73% Obama, 26% Clinton. 6:19 PM ADDITION: Bill Schrier, 34th DD webmaster, kindly informs us that the 34th has 1038 total delegates, so anything you see isn’t final till it hits that total. 6:30 PM ADDITION: The state Republican site is starting to post results. With 16% in, it’s McCain and Huckabee almost tied, Paul not far behind.

    Obama 4/Clinton 1/Undeclared 1

Don’t know precincts for the last two. I just asked around to see how voting was trending.

(This precinct was torn down (SHA) and empty for the last general election so they only had three delegates this time. However they had 96 people caucus today.) I was told it was unanimous. but I am not sure if that was the results or the sign-in.

we are all doomED, DOOMED, DOOOOOMED!!!!

O-man has the appeal of MLK and Ronald Reagan which is to say even people that don’t like what he says nor what he stands for will vote for him and support him because of how he says it.

    Doomed.

  • Stan Hargus February 10, 2008 (8:00 am)

34-1507 had 51 attendees at Gatewood Elementary.
Two years ago there were only 2.

    5 delegates for Obama
    1 delegate for Clinton

  • bj February 10, 2008 (8:40 am)

From Precinct 34-1434 (Alki area) –
Democracy IS messy (and hot and stuffy). Initial preference was 20 Obama, 9 Clinton, 3 undecided, and nothing changed from there. The main problem was that 4 precincts were all competing in the small school auditorium, which meant TOO MUCH NOISE and no possibility for any reasonable clearly audible discussion and subsequent persuasion. However, the numbers gave 3 delegates to Obama and 1 to Clinton, so there was really nothing that would get changed by further give-and-take. Hey, Democratic Party, there is no reason to have any precinct meeting unless it’s in a DEDICATED room. This was in a school, and a dozen classrooms could have been used so that each precinct could have had a civilized time of it.
P.S. — The other three precincts had about the same ratio of preferences.

  • Jiggers February 10, 2008 (8:47 am)

Its sounding more like Clinton’s going to get squashed in November.

  • gina February 10, 2008 (10:37 am)

34-1423 results? South Admiral area? Anyone know? I had to work yesterday.

  • WSB February 10, 2008 (10:58 am)

The 34DD’s have promised a precinct by precinct breakout within a few days. We’ll keep watching their site and post here when that’s in.

  • SK February 10, 2008 (11:02 am)

Hey BJ – good comment but get more involved next time with the planning– its an all-volunteer deal so lend a hand if you want to see it run better!

  • MargL February 10, 2008 (11:41 am)

Heh – “34th District Democrats” is not the first thing I thought of when I read “34DD’s” – took me a sec to figure out what you were talking about.

  • white center resident February 10, 2008 (11:41 am)

Sunnywood @ the new, spiffy White Center Heights (they have a freaking climbing wall!): 50 attendants, 48 Obama (6 delegates, including me), 2 Clinton (1 delegate).

  • acemotel February 10, 2008 (1:07 pm)

Many of us were involved in the planning (or tried to become involved), and the fact is, the number of attendees was underestimated by far. The speculation was that there might be twice as many people caucusing as last time – in fact, there were three, four, five times as many.

  • s February 10, 2008 (1:30 pm)

my first caucus an i end up with the opportunity to be a delegate!!! very exciting indeed.

  • Katie February 10, 2008 (9:19 pm)

Hey Gina, 34-1423 = Obama 2, Clinton 1, Undecided 1. Turnout was good, and we had some great discussion. Katie (Henry’s mom)

  • Cami February 11, 2008 (8:28 am)

I thought things at Alki went very well and I was in the LARGE room. Both sides gave a pitch to the undecideds, things were orderly and well run by our PCO (good job, Gary). Sounded the same in the group next to us as well. Not sure what side of the room you were on, but near the stage, everything was great.

  • Suits are not boring February 11, 2008 (9:28 am)

While I agree that it would have been better to have more locations and rooms, as a note, some of the schools would not allow classrooms to be used. For example, Madison did allow this, but Gatewood did not.

  • Eric February 11, 2008 (6:02 pm)

34-0848 had 17 attendees at Gregory Heights (Gregoire Heights? hee hee) Elementary in Burien. 3 delegates for Obama, 2 for Clinton.

  • Native February 12, 2008 (9:25 pm)

Obama would probably win Washington, except that the Super Delegates in WA will nominate Clinton. Shame.
    .
    Mark my words.

Sorry, comment time is over.
