West Seattle Crime Watch: Car break-in; vanishing trash can

Reports this afternoon from Sunrise Heights and Gatewood – read on:

First, Paul in Sunrise Heights sent this report this morning:

I wanted to report that our car was broken into on the 3500 block of SW Webster St. [map] Although I’m generally very good about locking the car, I didn’t last night. They stole the in-dash navigation/radio screen out of our mini van (not the entire radio although it looks like they were attempting to do that as well). Between 2 and 2:30am I did notice a suspicious car sitting across the street with their lights on playing loud music – not sure if this is relevant. And yes, I’m in the process of notifying the police (waiting for my call back now). Nothing else was broken or taken – fortunately I didn’t leave anything else in the car.

And we heard from Shelley in Gatewood – this follows other reports, both in Crime Watch and in the WSB Forums, of vanishing trash cans. She says their new trash can was stolen from in front of their house. She checked with Seattle Public Utilities to see if it might have been taken by the pickup crew for some reason (yesterday was pickup day, and this was a new can that Shelley’s family had purchased). Their answer, Shelley says, was, “it looks like a theft because she said they didn’t make a notation that they took it and ‘the contractor usually would’. She did say that people get their cans stolen all the time.”

Sorry to hear about your vehicle break in Paul.
Such a bummer that the one time you forget to lock your vehicle it gets broken into.
Seems an opportune moment for them to do it.

Well, at least we know how it wasn’t.

Seems odd, but we did have our can stolen last year. Thankfully SPU replaced it quickly.

We also just had our recycle can stolen last Sunday night. This is why we shred every bit of paper…who knows maybe they are looking for some new identity information. Took a week for the city to bring us a new one. We are now moving all of our cans from the alley into our back yard.

My free city garbage can was stolen last year (full of garbage!). How strange is that? I got a replacement quickly.

Uh oh. Exactly where on 35th and Webster was it parked? I live on the corner and have a pretty good view of the intersection and a block down Webster facing west.

Sorry, comment time is over.
