Dog need a wash? Chief Sealth fundraiser on Saturday

Fundraising car washes, you hear about often. Today – we have word of a fundraising dog wash. This Saturday, 3:30-6 pm at Southwest Athletic Complex, the Chief Sealth International High School Yoga Club is raising money with a dog wash. $5 minimum donation per pooch.

  1. I wonder how they will heat the water for bathing the dogs. Unless they are doing it indoors, but that will be messy.

  3. My dog will not tolerate any water temperature below 70 or above 76 degrees. Please be accomodating because he is my little pal. Thanks.

  4. Wow folks, it’s a $5 dollar dog wash for a fundraiser for cryin’ out loud. You want 75 degree water? Organic dog biscuits for the pooch while he gets a pedicure? Massage therapy? Then go to a uppity dog salon or wash them yourselves. You get what you pay for.

    Sheesh.

I asked the question because it needs to be brought to someone’s attention (supervising adult?) that it really is not safe to hose down canines (or any mammal, 2 or 4 legged) with 45 degree or colder tap water from a hose. It’s possible when they planned this event they assumed that dogs can just be hosed down out in the parking lot, and that really is not the case for dogs unless they are suffering from heat stroke and must be cooled down in an emergency. I love the idea of something dog related for a fundraiser, but this wasn’t thought all the way through unless they have planned for heated water. I am sure we all agree we don’t want dogs to be harmed for any reason, good cause or not. This isn’t about a $5 dog wash anyway, it is a fundraiser for the yoga club. So make a donation by all means, but please don’t subject your dog to a stressful and possibly health-harming ice cold bath at the hands of a stranger. Fortunately this weekend will be warmer than it has been yet so far this year, but it still is not the hundred degrees it would need to be to actually benefit a dog from something like this and not hurt them.
