West Seattle storms: Tree vs. house; Admiral mud; rainbow

It seemed inevitable in the heart of the crazy early-morning storm burst (here’s our original coverage) that trees had come down somewhere – and here’s our first report. Just received the photo from Jacque and Zack in Westwood, who e-mailed, “We had part of a tree come down onto our neighbor’s house after the windstorm. We’re on the phone with insurance and scouting the forums to get recommendations for arborists.” (If you have anyone to recommend, please post a comment!) Also just got word from Tiffany of slide activity spotted alongside Admiral: “Heading 1/2 to 2/3 the way down Admiral Way you’ll see up the hill, looks like recent slide activity and even fresh dirt over the wall and bulges of mud at the top!!!”

ADDED 9:18 AM: The stormy weather has its beautiful moments too –

Taken within the hour, before everything clouded up again, by someone in Gatewood who asked to be anonymous. (Looks like the “pot of gold” would be on Blake Island for this one …) Thanks!

Arborist extraordinaire: Stonehedge Tree Experts. Their ad is right here on the blog’s sidebar.

Ditto on Stonehedge. Reputable, great people, and West-Seattle based.

+1 for stonehedge. Great people, and local to boot.

Sorry for your troubles. I’ve had this happen to my house when I lived in Arbor Heights. Scary and no fun. If the tree can be saved, an Arborist such as Stonehedge is preferred. But, if the tree just needs to come down and the roof tarped, it’s better having the insurance company send “their guy,” who specializes in quick storm-removal and repair situations.

Out on a Limb. I’ve used them several times. Very knowledgeable and professional. Have seen them working all over West Seattle too. Google them.

Admiral mud. That has been there for at least 2 days, larger this am. There is a red cone there. I have been watching the bulge in the Burlap since last spring.. Taking all the shrubbs out left nothing to hold it back. The burlap rots after a while…

Stonehedge is good, great for highly technical work.
    And expensive.
We used them until we could not afford their services for doing regular tree maintenance, cutting view windows for neighbors and reducing wind loads, usually at more than $1,000. Owning large and mature trees in Seattle is a very expensive and often thankless task. New laws continue to load costs and responsibilities on tree-owners.
After last nights winds, I need to clean out our and our senior neighbors’ gutters of fir cones, needles and broken boughs, for the fifth time this fall.
I am no arborist, but judging purely by the WSB photo, it appears that the tree that went down had not had an arborist’s attention with its multiple trunks.
As well as using Stonehenge for the last 30 years, we have also been using another old Fauntleroy family’s tree service for that long and who I can also recommend – Clearcut Tree Service @937-1748. I can only imagine some snarks emerging, but please consider that Clearcut was established well before the word became outre’.

Oliver Bailey saved us several years ago when a tree fell on our house. He was absolutely amazing. His phone is (206) 661-4282.

He was fast, did a great job and was a great price!

While walking dogs around West Seattle this morning, I noticed a lot of plugged storm drains. Just a reminder: If you happen to pass a drain, maybe give it a quick check. Still a lot of water out there trying to get to Sound!

Fluent Tree did an incredibly difficult removal of a massive limb threatening our house. Clean, fast, and a very knowledgeabl arborist. 206.605.7846
