West Seattle Weather Watch: Driving danger = drain reminder

Thanks to Shelley for sharing that photo of a megapuddle on the west side of the 35th/Cloverdale intersection in Westwood. The most recent blast of wintry weather brought down most of local trees’ remaining leaves, and that means drains need attention – the city has repeatedly urged residents to “adopt a drain” and go tend to the ones nearest their homes. If you have removed the leaves and it’s still clogged – here’s the city hotline to call: (206) 386-1800more info here. (Any other puddles worth warning drivers about?)

35th and Avalon was growing this morning (northbound), but that was around 7:15. Maybe it’s been cleared by now? Not a good spot for a huge puddle since so many people use the right lane. I think we’re all used to it though.

Oh wait a minute – I could ask why people do rake leaves off the sidewalks to the roads??? I have caught couple of people who live on 35th – WHY??

    WHY??

I object, and can blame toward people and landscapers (located on the 35th Ave & Barton and 35th & Thistle) raked the leaves off to the roads – WHY?? Dont they rake up and put into Yard Waste or in brown bag…

Its better to help people to drive safer than sorry…:(

There was a landscaper leaf blowing into the road on the west side of 35th just north of Barton intersection yesterday… that is very annoying and potentially dangerous. I agree wholeheartedly with samson.

    I blame the trees. :-)

Pffft. I used to rake leaves and clear drains religiously, but that was back when the city allowed everyone to set out two extra yard waste containers per week in October and November. They eliminated that allowance two years ago when they jacked up the yard waste rates (and lost my free labor as a result).

I tried to clean the drain at 35th and Avalon, but couldn’t find it! Right before I gave up I felt metal! No leaves, so I called and SPU said they’d come out.

Lake Avalon is right at my daughter’s school bus stop in the morning. We can’t stand at the shelter because it would hinder metro drivers, but we also can’t stand in a puddle….I hope they unclog the drain.

A friend of mine lives in a city where you rake ALL of your leaves into the gutter and a machine comes by and sucks them up for you. It’s really nifty.

Sorry, comment time is over.
