gr9945ParticipantCity ordinance requires you to pick up after your dog. Let it be known if your DOG is in MY yard it’s life is in danger.
I’m tired of you lazy ass dog owners who won’t pick up after your pet when they crap in my yard. I have young kids and they are getting tired having crap on shoes and clothing.
Just plain NASTY. Remember I will take immediate action, no more second chances.
March 25, 2012 at 5:44 pm #752700
JanSParticipantnow that would be a fine parental example..your dog poops in my yard? Off with his head…
March 25, 2012 at 6:24 pm #752701
oddrealityParticipantSorry you feel poop in your yard is worth jail time.Pretty hard to raise kids from prison.Good luck to you.
You have seen the news lately? Does not the news about Kona the dogs torturer mean anything to you?
Really jail time is very likely if you kill pets for pooping. It is the owner not the pet.Why kill the dog??Why not kill the owners instead??[**sarcasm** not intended to be a real suggestion.]Because for sure you would get a lot of prison time for that.
I totally get your anger. I have dogs and always pick up theirs and hate having to pick up other peoples dogs poop.Wish those pets owners would be responsible.
March 25, 2012 at 7:04 pm #752702
gr9945ParticipantYour scare tactics will not work.
No,there is no law says I would do jail time.
Only animals protected by LAW would anyone be subjected to jail time & fines.
Torture/Abuse of “YOUR”(owner) pet =jail/fines.
Pets are property. Small claims court? maybe.
This is just anger met with sarcasm, and I’m sure I’ll get more
March 25, 2012 at 8:00 pm #752703
velo_nutParticipantBlah blah blah. What if I come poop in your yard?
March 25, 2012 at 8:24 pm #752704
Talaki34ParticipantAnger and sarcasm aside, what is it you intend to do the animals vs. the owners? Any reprisal directed at an animal that has no control over where it goes is inappropriate at the very least. If you want to stop them from going in your yard, then a fence may be what is needed. Limited funds, then maybe you could find something at Second Use or one of the other architectural salvage businesses. Fencing does not have to be terribly high or traditional, just something that does not allow the animal to step over.
I understand your frustration over having to clean up after someone’s pet. I have several animals that are using my yard as their bathroom. You would think that every owner would understand that this is part of the responsibility of owning a pet just like providing food, water, shelter and Vet care. Alas there are some who just don’t get it and never will. They feel they are special and do not have to follow the same standards of common courtesy the rest of us have to follow.
The old standby, “Life is not fair” best sums it up. Rule breakers often get away with things and those of us who try to follow the rules literally in the end may have to clean up their mess. When this happens and I get angry enough to react I remember what my Dad used to tell me. “What’s right is right, what’s wrong is wrong.” No matter how you spin it, doing the wrong thing for even the right reason is still wrong. Hurting anything because you are unable to address the real culprits is wrong. Venting here and not in front of your children is right. Coming up with a creative “non” injurious deterrent, is even more right.

HunterGParticipantNot that I approve of the extreme measures the OP is insinuating, I do understand the frustration.
We love our pets, and I bet that OP likes animals too, anger is powerful. If people saw my yard as a safe haven for their dog to relieve themselves and not have the courtesy to pick it up, I would be pissed off too. My tactics may be different to address the problem, but yes, I would be extremely angry.
There are quite a few pet owners that do not follow the rules and it is frustrating watching complete inconsideration – and I see it a lot having one of West Seattle’s largest parks as a back yard.
But what is the answer of how to address the problem? No offense, but “life isn’t fair” wouldn’t work for me, but violence should never be the answer.
Have any others had this kind of issue like the OP? What did you you to address the issue? Just because you have a dog doesn’t mean you have the right to let it crap anywhere you want – private property is private property.

karenParticipantWe once lived near a free roaming dog that thought our yard was a great place to do it’s business. Having enough, my husband bagged the poo and tied the bag to the dog’s collar.
If enough dog’s come home with poo bags, maybe someone will get the message?
March 26, 2012 at 12:24 am #752708
service dog academyMembernot all service dogs wear vests at all times. you might want to be careful about who you threaten.
According to washington state law:
(1)(a) Any person who has received notice that his or her behavior is interfering with the use of a dog guide or service animal who continues with reckless disregard to interfere with the use of a dog guide or service animal by obstructing, intimidating, or otherwise jeopardizing the safety of the dog guide or service animal user or his or her dog guide or service animal is guilty of a misdemeanor, except as provided in (b) of this subsection.
(5) Any person who intentionally injures, disables, or causes the death of a dog guide or service animal is guilty of a class C felony punishable according to chapter 9A.20 RCW.
so mister, you ready to go to prison for a FELONY, have your name plastered all over the internet for abuse and never be able to get a job again over dog poop?

singularnameParticipantGr99445 … I wholeheartedly support your stance. A BB spray to the hind end should take care of the problem with a given canine. Pepper spray to the face should also work unless you’re afraid of the dog–personally, I consider the latter more cruel, but I notice some mail deliverers use it with wild abandon. Your kids–or you for that matter–should not be subject to the parasites, bacterial infections, and/or aggression a dog left to roam is more likely to “share,” not to mention the wreckage of your yard. Good luck.

F16CrewChiefMemberCity ordinance may say scoop your dogs poop and keep them on a leash, but if the dog is not a public threat, state law says you can’t kill it.
http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=9.08.070
You need to take pictures of the dog and notify Animal Control. Then the owner will be fined.
March 26, 2012 at 4:24 am #752714
luckymom30ParticipantHear, hear F16CrewChief, the ordinance does not give anyone the right to kill an animal, period, you will be breaking the law if you do any harm to that dog or anyother animal that is not a direct threat. This dog is trespassing on your property but is not doing you any bodily harm.
Harming or killing this or any animal does not make you a role model for your young kids, it does not make you a bigger man. It makes you a coward for not contacting Animal Control and having them contact the dogs owner.
Last Summer we had renters living nextdoor to us and without the permission of the rental agency they got a dog. The dog was either tied to the clothesline out back or wandering unleashed. It was agressive as well. The renters had 3 very young children which they allowed to be outfront alone alot and alone with the dog.
Our daughter likes to ride her bike, skate and just play outside but because of this dog wandering around and many times in our front yard she had to play only in the backyard and we had to run to our cars because the dog was agressive. The dog did do some property damage as well.
Like you the dog was on our property and but we did not harm the dog, we did not shoot the dog. We called the rental agency to complain and then called Animal Control. The dog was removed shortly after and the family moved away.

F16CrewChiefMemberWhen I use to live down in Brace Point, my neighbor had a dog that constantly made a point to handle his business in my yard. We called Animal Control and they told us to take pictures of our neighbors dog in the act. It took a few days to catch the dog doing his thing, but we got it. On the advice of Animal Control, we took the pictures to our neighbor and showed them their dog fertilizing our lawn. Our neighbors were not even confrontational about it, they were quite the opposite. They couldn’t apologize enough and they even came over to our yard to clean up. We had no other issues after that. No killing required.

miwsParticipantMarch 26, 2012 at 2:42 pm #752717
luckymom30ParticipantWe also took pictures at the request of the rental agency and Animal Control of the dog being unleashed as well as damaging our property.
Hope you are listening gr9945 since you took the time to post this situation online.
I also worry about your state of mind wanting to harm an animal and in your next sentence you state you have young children, yikes! Imagine how the dog owners kids and family would feel if you harmed or killed their family pet? Imagine how you would feel if someone did the same to your family pet? A pet is an addition to a family so you would be harming/killing a family member.
March 26, 2012 at 3:20 pm #752718
kootchmanMemberThat would be an interesting elevation of a problem. Man kills beloved pet of child who left a gate open? Kevlar.. I suggest you get familiar with it. A new reality show!
March 26, 2012 at 3:40 pm #752719
queseraMemberGet. A. Fence.
Even a cheap, low fence would keep dogs off your lawn. Seriously. And it’s much cheaper than court fees and the income loss your family would experience while you’re in jail. Also, consider how easy it is to acquire a firearm and permit to carry in Seattle. When you come running out of the house with a weapon, the dog owner might just shoot you on the spot, in self-defense.
Or get a fence. Seems like an easy choice to me.
(Also, if this didn’t already occur to you many times over, please don’t home school your kids).
March 26, 2012 at 6:28 pm #752720
WSratsinacageMemberI’m NOT for harming animals, just wanted to say I understand the frustration. I experience the same thing with having to clean up dog waste in my yard (even though I don’t own a dog) and clean off my kids shoes, etc.. From the topics/comments on the wsb these past few years, many others feel your frustration as well.
.
The number of dogs is out of control and there are a lot of bad owners out there which equals dogs off leash, pooping in yards, biting kids in parks, etc .. not just stating what I have read on the blog but what I have experienced first hand.
.
Keep on Animal Control. Hold them and owners accountable, even in this “age of entitlement”
March 26, 2012 at 9:43 pm #752721
CaitParticipantFirst of all, get mad at the owner. Second of all, IT’S JUST DOG CRAP. I understand it’s gross but get over yourself. If you let yourself get worked up to the point of killing or hurting an animal over a pile of crap, I really worry about you.
March 26, 2012 at 9:54 pm #752722
luckymom30ParticipantI worry about him too, and his children and wife.
Please listen to us all and let go of your anger, call Animal Control, file a complaint, keep calling them until they come to investigate, take pictures, build a fence and please take care of yourself and your family.
March 27, 2012 at 6:31 pm #752723
SJoyParticipantI get your frustration as I would not like random dogs pooing in my yard, but that is unlikely as I have a FENCE (food for thought)
Just to be clear – are you stating that you will kill/harm my dog if he or she walks on your property? Does that include the parking strip??? Please include your address so that we wouldn’t DARE walk near your home (at least unarmed).
Also, there are lots of doctors in the neighborhood that can hook you up with some much needed Xanax. Happy Day!!!
