JiggersMemberI would like it in your own words please. Don’t copy and paste the definition from an online dictionary.

JoBParticipantjiggers.. are we there again?
an elitist is someone who focuses only on their own concerns/ideology to the extent that they don’t even recognize the validity of any other..
and yes.. that means that a redneck could be an elitist…

charlabobParticipantFirst of all, Hell Yes, I am an elitist. I’m a little wary, with few exceptions, of anyone who isn’t me. That’s my first definition, and I’d argue most people, whether or not they admit it, start at the same place.
I think the (usually liberal) viewpoint that we must consider others’ ideas to be equally valid is, perhaps, the most elitist idea of all. Do you believe the political ideas of Sarah Palin should be considered on the same plane as the political ideas of William S. Buckley or Howard Zinn? Then you are an elitist — you imagine that “they” can only be expected to understand the monosyllabic Palin.
Am I kidding? Or just testing a new keyboard.

JiggersMemberGenHillOne.. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Compassion is a feared word in our society today.
November 19, 2009 at 6:53 pm #682409
GenHillOneParticipantlol, 1) you asked for MY definition, so it IS my truth 2) how does society fear compassion iyo?
November 20, 2009 at 12:11 am #682410
JoBParticipantcharlabob..
i think the liberal viewpoint is that we have to actually consider the viewpoint of those who oppose us…
i didn’t see any place in my liberal handbook that said i had to be any less critical of their ideas than i am of those i express…
i do have to let them say whatever they want..
but i don’t have to stand idly by without challenging their opinions simply because it might hurt their feelings…
genhillone.. i would have to agree with you. if you can’t acknowledge anyone’s reality other than your own, it is pretty difficult to have compassion for anyone other than yourself.
jiggers…
society is not afraid of compassion. individuals are.
this individual is put in the uncomfortable position of having to thank you for starting what could be a very interesting discussion.
how elitist is that?

There’s only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people’s cultures…and the Dutch.
