Trying to save money and I want to start making tortillas and other flat breads at home. I know I can use a rolling pin and plastic wrap but that just gets messy. Does anyone know if anywhere in W. Seattle (close to Admiral Dist preferred) sells presses?

    Thanks in advance

    Go to a thrift-store…usually they’re around $2-$3.

Gosh – saw one at a garage sale this weekend for 50 cents! You never know when you are out and about what you will find! (I don’t remember which one it was and was probably snatched up in a hurry)

Interestingly enough I’ve been researching the same thing. Reasearch and reviews all say that the lightweight aluminum presses are not worth any sort of money. Apparently they don’t press well and are prone to break. Rather a sturdy cast iron version is the better bet (again, according to my research) with the Victoria brand being suggested. I’ve been looking for this brand in local hispanic stores and have yet to find. But haven’t been vigilant in my search. It continues, but may just break down and purchase from Amazon.

biankat, there is a cast iron version for sale at Sur La Table for $20 (no brand given). It’s on their website at http://www.surlatable.com/product/PRO-452797/Cast-Iron-Tortilla-Press but I’d call their location near Pike Place Market and see if it’s only online or can be picked up at the store.
