Anyone know offhand if Vatsana has re-opened? They closed for their yearly vacation and then a remodel. Has anyone been there in the last 2 weeks?

    Thanks,

Answered my own question – if anyone wants to know for future reference, they are no longer open on Sundays. Neither is the teriyaki place in WV.

Salvadorean Bakery to the rescue! :)

I’ve eyeballed Vatsana Thai, and they have good Health Dept. inspection results.

I have been a loyal customer of Thai Thai

    http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/restaurants/2008114228_deal15.html

for years. I can walk to Westwood Village, but Thai Thai is too far to walk.

Have you had the peanut sauce at Thai Thai, and if so, how does the peanut sauce at Vatsana Thai compare? I always get Peanut Green with chicken four stars at Thai Thai.

It would take a lot for me to abandon Thai Thai.

It would only take Bhuddha Ruksa to abandon Thai Thai.

I used to go to Vatsana all the time when I lived down on Delridge, about 2 years ago. They were always closed on Sundays back then – did they recently try opening up on Sundays? I was always partial to the beef panang curry. Lately when I go down to WV I head to Gionnoni’s, but I think I’ll have to make a Thai run.

Sue: Yeah they were open on Sundays for awhile, unless I’m misremembering.

Scott B. I have never been to Thai Thai so I don’t know the answer to your question but I’m sure someone will.

Zenguy: Buddha Ruksa is my favorite by far, but they don’t open til 4 and sometimes we have dinner earlier than that in our house. Vatsana is a good alternative, though different types of dishes. I suspect there’re regional cuisine differences at play, but don’t know enough about Thailand to be sure. However, I suspect that someone here will enlighten me :)

Buddha Ruksa is the absolute best. I do love Vatsana’s too – and think their Tom Kha soup is way better than Buddha Ruksa. I wouldn’t go back to Thai Thai if you paid for my food and then paid me to eat it. Outside of WS, Golden Singha next to the 5-Point is outstanding, and Rice -n- Spice on lower Queen Anne is really great too.

The one time I went to Buddha Ruksa, I was underwhelmed. It wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t great either. I found Vatsana’s okay. Haven’t tried Thai Thai yet; the couple of times I’ve been by there, they’ve been closed.

    .

When I want Thai food I usually go to Kaosamai Thai over in Fremont. Proper level of spiciness and the best somtam I’ve had outside of Thailand.

Hands down, I prefer BR over Vatsana’s. However, I can walk to V’s and I have been grateful for those times when unexpected guests show up hungry and we order ahead from Vatsana’s.

What I would never do is sit in the dining room at Vatsana’s. The amount of carry-out business is high here and customers waiting for their food stand next to the tables swinging backpacks, and struggling with squirmy children. Its just not a great atmosphere for me to enjoy my dinner.

Vatsana is good and very convenient. I usually run into people I know there too.

I had long suspected that I was the only person around who didn’t like Vatsana. I’ve given them so many chances and each time I’m unimpressed but other people seem to love it. I guess taste really is all relative. I definitely prefer Buddha Ruksa. Haven’t tried Thai Thai yet despite it’s walking distance from my house. I get accused of Thai food snobbery in my house a lot, so I’m trying to be a little less uptight in my judging of Thai places. :)

Nothing wrong with having standards! (j/k–mostly)

    .

Like I said, I’m not crazy about Vatsana’s either, though it’s not the worst Thai food I’ve had in Seattle. (That honor belongs to someplace over on Capitol Hill that I don’t even recall the name of; it started off good and then went downhill.)

    .

There are so many Thai restaurants in this town that it just shouldn’t be that hard to find a good one.

has anyone tried the place next to Papa Johns on California Ave across from the nursery? It’s close by, but I have been wary of trying it. Any reviews would be appreciated.

I was to that place on California just once and it has been a few years. That said, it was good food; or what I had was. I had the whole wok fried fish on a huge bed of salad greens and papaya with a heavenly sauce. The hold back for me (again) was dining room atmoshpere. Not like Vatsana’s, but not comfortable and more fast-food like. When I go out for Thai, or any dining experience, I want to be comfortable.

FP – You took the words write off my reply box!

Really – I was in there a couple of years ago right after they opened, but only once. The atmosphere is not conducive to much – one doesn’t want to linger over a meal. And, I think I had the same salad as FP as a matter of fact.

thanks flowerpetal and dood – I would be likely just doing takeout, so if it’s good for that, I might give it a try – maybe on a Monday when BR is closed. I went to it’s last incarnation way back in the day when I worked at Bison Creek, but I am pretty sure it’s new owners since then. Anyone have any idea- did it used to be a Taco Bell? That’s what the building always reminds me of.

Yep Jen, good eye it was a Taco Bell way back when. I have not eaten there, Oban is the name I think too because no one I know has had anything good to say about it and with better choices out there…why?

Vatsana is open. Please head over in an orderly manner, one by one, and please be hungry.

Ordered from there tonight. Got the spicy peanut sauce noodles with beef. MMMMMMMMmmm. Their sweet and sour sauce for the deep fried tofu is the best!

Thanks Jan. Those are pretty convincing reviews. I may have to give this place a second look.

I’ll admit to Thai snobbery. ;-) Olarn has the best Tom Kha Gai and Lee’s has the best Pad Thai IMO. I don’t care for Vatsanas.

I always go to Thai Thai for Thai food. That habit began after Thai Thai was part of Hinterberger’s Alley at the Bite of Seattle.

The current cooks are the same cooks as back then.
