swimcatMemberCan anyone recommend a well-lit staircase around WS that is safe for running after work hours? The only one I know of is at Thistle and California, but I’ve never run it in the dark because there are so many trees and not many people. The stairs you recommend don’t need to be as long as those either. Also, is the WS track off of 35th open all the time? I’ve often wondered what the deal was with running there. Thanks!

MacsmomMemberNot sure if WS Stadium is still open since the vandalism, but Sealth is usually open and has a great set of stairs

JanSParticipantI don’t know what part of West Seattle you’re in, but, there are some stairs on SW Genessee, between 48th and the school at 51st. It’s an arterial, lots of cars, so there’s visibility. They’re not super long, you’d just have to do them a lot…:)

FranciParticipantThere is a shorter staircase at Webster & 44th, I’m not too sure of the lighting, but I know its not too dark as I’ve walked it at night before.

swimcatMemberThanks for the recommendations! I’m on Gatewood Hill, so I’m expecting to have to drive to wherever the stairs are. If there are any other recommendations, keep ’em coming! I get bored and like to mix it up if there is something else worth checking out.

addParticipantHi m – I’m on Gatewood Hill, too – you probably know about the shorter staircase that connects Warsaw at 38th to the alley behind 39th. I doubt the staircase itself is lighted, but it does end in lighted areas.
I hadn’t heard about vandalism at the WS Stadium/track – bummer. I have run there many times and I believe it’s always open. Not sure about the evening lighting schedule, though.

It list several stairs I was not aware of and seems to have ratings or opinions as to safe or not.
This series of essays on local Seattle parks is pretty good too.

KenParticipantcredmond:
I am assuming the Highpoint stair is still considered to dangerous due to its remote location and lack of lighting.
Do you have any suggestions for M?
