I am interested in making my own kefir, does anyone have any grains?

    What is kefir?

Similar to yogurt. Slightly fermented, cultured milk. It’s near the yogurt in the stores. Making it yourself is cheaper.

Try Gem cultures. They are a western Washington company. I bought some koji culture.

I’ve seen Kefir starter at PCC. It’s on the far right wall, across from the bulk foods, and immediately next to the freezer. Top shelf. It’s about $7 for a huge package. I was going to pick one up sometime soonish. I can let you know how it works, or if you find some in the meantime, will you keep the rest of us posted on how it works out for you? We go through about two cartons a week of kefir, so it would be MUCH cheaper to make it.

The starter at PCC is not actual Kefir grains. I tried it a few months back. It is just a yogurt starter.

FullTilt is correct. The grains are used over and over as in sourdough. The starter you find in stores only lasts a limited amount of time.
