DPMember—but still very much “Claude.”
This week’s SWiWS is brought to you by WSB Member jwws, who had the following to say about it, more or less:
The first time I stumbled across them was on a dog walk – my Lab encountered their leader from across the street and barked his head off (Golden Retriever was totally oblivious, but she is a Golden Retriever).
When not striking terror into the hearts of near-sighted dogs (and their owners), this fellow and his friends stand guard near the entrance to their encampment, which lies just on the outskirts of civilization.
I like to think of them as the guardians of an unused (unknown?) entrance to a certain well-known West Seattle place.
Once upon a time, there was another kind of creature here as well, but that one has since returned to the mother ship.
Note: Good karma points to those of you who KNOW the answer to the mystery but are serene enough to let others have a crack at it first.
There are more pictures to come and, hopefully, more story too. Those of you who THINK you know might want to ask jwws for some more clues.
Blessed are the near-sighted and the
oblivious, for they shall inherit the Earth.

HelperMonkeyParticipantpretty sure I know where this is, and my doggie friend was most decidedly *not* a fan of Bear’s friend the Fisherman on a recent walk through the area. :)

shed22ParticipantAt first I thought maybe Camp Long. But I was just there and don’t recall a carved bear(?). Then, I thought maybe The Log House Museum. It’s been some time, but I can only remember a Totem Pole. Then HelperMonkey mentioned the Fisherman and I flashed to a house on the walk from Beach Drive to Lincoln Park. It has a carved Fisherman in the front. But JWWS states this area is “unused, (unknown?)” and by all accounts the site that i am thinking could hardly be described as either. The search is still on.

jwwsParticipantshed22 – continue the search by all means!
HelperMonkey – If by Fisherman you mean a carved sea captain type figure we’re not in the same ball park on this one. This “Claude” figure has no real human type cohorts but many other friends who may or may not have a fish in their claws/hands…

miwsParticipantI have a hunch I’m going to be doing a forehead slap when this one is revealed.
It’s like I know it, but just can’t quite place it.

jissyParticipantThink I used to walk by this guy in my old ‘hood — North Admiral. Believe he resides at the Southwest corner of a house on SW Walker Street (maybe 49th or 50th??). The owners back then would put cute little hats/costumes on him depending on the holiday/season etc. He’s a very gentle looking bear despite those harsh looking claws!!

jwwsParticipantJissy,
Good guess but not the right hood/bear – there might be a lot of “bears” in WS but read DP’s lead in for clues; he is obtuse as always and we may need to ask for an extra photo clue… put those thinking hats on!!!

DPMemberWill Rogers said, “Never miss a good opportunity to shut up.”
—And now that I’ve tried it, I think I’m going to like it.
(Oops! There I go again.)
A nonplussed DP scratches his chin and wonders, for the umpteenth time, “What’d I say? What’d I say ?
