Does anyone know of any solstice events going on on the 21st? I think I once read something about a gathering at Lincoln Park, but can’t find anything.

I haven’t attended (yet), but Alice Enevoldson has had gatherings at Solstice Park, (above the tennis courts across from Lincoln Park), for Spring and Autumn Equinoxes.

Couldn’t find anything, on a quick search, to see if she’s hosted any Winter Solstice gatherings.

Shihtzu, there is a Druidic solstice event at Lincoln park annually. I haven’t yet heard details; but with contact information, I could send that to you when it arrives in me mailbox.

A-Yup, Mike is right, I’ll be hosting a sunset viewing at Solstice Park on the 21st. I haven’t announced it yet, but I’ll be there. WSB is usually kind enough to post a link when I get my announcement out. I’ll be posting the times soon on my blog http://www.alicesastroinfo.com.

It’s a low-key event, most lots of people sitting to watch the sunset, I’m available to answer astronomy questions, and sometimes do a quick little presentation about what the solstice is: recruiting a couple people from the crowd to be the Sun and Earth and showing the orbits.

Maybe this year we’ll see if the sunset lines up with the marker!

Also early-early on the morning of the 21st, at just after midnight, there will be one of the best total lunar eclipses in the Northwest in the last many years. Cross your fingers for the clouds to part.

Our family takes a picnic breakfast and goes to watch the sun rise (or the dark gray clouds turn light gray, depending on conditions…) at the Belvedere Park Viewpoint every Winter Solstice. Seems like there are always a few other families there, but it’s nothing really organized.

Flowerpetal, is the Lincoln Park event you’re thinking of organized by Caer Pugetia?

Hi herongrrrl, yes, that’s the group I had in mind. Are you on their mailing list?

If anyone hears of anything else – for posting publicly, anyway – please let us know so we can add to holiday guide, which would include solstice as well as Christmas, Hanukkah, Festivus, New Year ….

    West Seattle Holiday Guide 2015

Will start the Solstice section now w/Alice’s event!

Flowerpetal, I’m not, but I know a couple of the folks who are involved in it. I’ll keep my ears open for any word on Solstice stuff at the park.

There will be a Winter Solstice Sound Meditation & Outdoor Fire Gong Ceremony in North Delridge on the 21st. I haven’t been to this event before, but I’ve attended Sha’ari’s healing gong meditation events before and really enjoyed it. For info:

Also in North Delridge – I just spotted this on the ND Neighborhood Council calendar. They did this a couple years ago…despite the snow.

Where: Cottage Grove Park: 5206 26th Ave SW (map)

Description: A candlelight celebration to illuminate the darkest time of the year. Join the North Delridge community for a labyrinth walk, meditations, prayers and music!

Kind of creepy that the winter solstice happens at the same time as a full moon this year also…..

Maybe my S.A.D. will be gone soon. :)

Yup, Todd, it definitely helps — the march to longer days (and Spring) begins the next day.
